Day 1 of Mic'd Up

This is the part of the blog where we turn things over to you - the fan. Give us your thoughts on Day One of Mic'd Up on WFAN. Now we know there are going to be the "this show is soo boring" comments, but let's try to be constructive also with our criticism. Tell us what you thought of the "new" show and if you have criticism, what you would change. Who knows? Perhaps we will send the feedback to Mark Chernoff, so just keep it in good taste.

I have to wait and see how Russo does with his show, but it seems like Mike offers nothing new. He does no preparation and gets a "ho hum" show as a result. The only thing about his show that stands out is that he's simulcasted on TV. He comes up with outlandish ideas, even some good points here and there, but he offers no details in how to execute his points. "Jeter should go to CF, and the Yanks should go find a SS." There is no SS to be had, and it's just not a realistic idea. He conducts a boring interview that is likely to replayed at 6. Same boring Heyman spot. Now he's harrassing Carlin because we don't hear enough of him...Poked a little fun at Sterling...Basically, it's a typical Mike alone show. Maybe it will get better, but right now I'm not seeing much indication. If you have to promise every 30 mins that the show will get better, that's a sign that you're struggling.

And I'm not really listening, but did he dub "Loud Mouths" "Lung Cancer?" I'm assuming that's a shot at that one guy with the smoker's voice, but making light of lung cancer isn't going to win him much support. That's borderline, for sure.

Seriously...He should be taken off the air until they can come up with something better. The other WFAN guys are better.

He definitely did make fun of lung cancer. Would anyone else view that similarly to the "nappy headed hoes" remark from Imus? Shouldn't there be some fallout for this?

he said "Lunk heads"

the part with Carlin was the best part of the show

Oh? I stand corrected then.

13 days until Mad Dog Radio. After that, no more boring commercial radio for me, strictly satelite.

anyone know if dog's show is gonna be streaming on the web?

2weeks to prepare for Mic'd up and the best they could do for a jingle is a bastardized version of the 20-year old lame Mike and the Dog intro...great preparation Mike...Dog is going to put the wood to you in the ratings...and even if satelitte doesn't count...I am going to Tirico and VanPelt...sad, very sad

Does anyone remember in the short-lived post-MM&D, pre-Mike'd Up interlude when Fatcesa, after initially promising us that he would "shuffle the format", "maybe get some new contributers", "get a new jingle", "begin to put a new program together"....and then a caller wished him good luck or something for when the new show/format started.

Mike then angrily barked, "there's no new format - we're doin a sports show here. the idea that we're gonna reinvent the wheel - we're doin' sports, there's no new format."

Well, judging from today, he wasn't kidding.

Sirius streams on the internet if you are a subscriber. There's a login and password, but if you have Sirius, even for your car, you can listen online.

I remember that. I understand there's no new format involved, but he barely even tweaked the show for crying out loud! I need to see more to know for sure, but it seems like he thinks he's just going to continue to be a ratings boon by living off the success Dog helped him attain in the last 19 years. That "prime real estate" timeslot alone isn't going to win you ratings, Mike. There are alternatives. Apparently, paying to hear Dog is one of those alternatives, at least for some.

I just went on the Sirius website to look into listening online (my mom has an XM subscription). If you don't have a subscription, you can subscribe to listen online (no radio required) at the site for $12.95/month. They call it "Sirius Internet Radio."

Yea im with you guys..This show needs some serious consideration for being shortened or just taken off the air..I mean i cant take fatcesa (btw that was a good one) anymore. I mean can anyone tell me where i can find tirico an van pelt. And as much as mike rips espn, they are about to rip his show to shreds..The only thing i can say is thank God he is not on tomorrow..cuz i dont know if i can take him on back to back days. And he should be repremanded for calling that caller a Jackass..b/c all that caller did was have the balls to say what the rest of out thinking...

I am actually fired up for the Giants Replay of SB 42. I can watch my DVD w/ the radio broadcast.
So we all agree that Mike solo is Piss Poor and that Doggie will be the show to listen to?

Tirico and VanPelt is on ESPN Radio, Sirius Channel 120 and also on XM Radio ...the best guy on the radio is Colin Cowherd from 10a-1p on ESPN Radio as well...

You would think Mike would have at least prepared for his new show instead of taking the listeners for granted...he should not have been surprised by the new jingle, he should have been involved in writing, producing or at least approving it before it went on air.

If Chernoff wasn't so afraid of BIG MIKE, maybe he would encourage him to do a little preparation

That show yesterday was a joke. For almost a month, we have all been wondering what the new Mike Francesa show would be like, and he comes on the air like it's business as usual? Like it's not even a big deal? He hasn't even heard the new jingle to HIS OWN show??

Most people would look at their first show as an opportunity to generate some excitement. Do something different. Get someone other than John Heyman to talk to. Tell us who the new personalities are gonna be! Instead, he brought absolutely nothing to the table. It's as if he pulled into the parking lot 5 minutes before he went on the air having not even thought about his new show during his past month of vacation. It just shows you how little he cares about his listeners. In his mind, the fact that he is the host should be good enough for all of us. Well, I'll be switching over to Dog on the 15th. I know he's not gonna drop the ball like Mike has.

Mike has definitely taken the listeners for granted..If i may assume most of the people on this blog are in college to about age of 30..Listening to Francesca is like listening to a boring lecture that ultimately put you to sleep, fortunately for him his boring lecture is sports..I never thought i would use the words boring and lecture in the same sentence in my life unless i was talking about badminton. Hyped Up is more an appropriate name b/c that's all he did was hype up the show ever since we got official word of the split, its like a highly anticipated boxing match where the guy gets knocked out in round 1 i mean its pathetic this crap. And like Fatcesa always says "that train has left station" well Mike the Dog train has left the station and most of us our going to be on it...

PS..Did anyone hear Carlin yesterday say "thats why your partner left" responding to a ludicrous statement that Mike made pertaining to RU Football. Just thought id point that out...

TheNextBestThing1 said...

I meant to say boring and sports in the same sentence, b/c boring and lecture are synonymous.

Anonymous said...

thenextbigthing, i think carlin said "I thought your partner left" because mike said something that dog would have said.

TheNextBestThing1 said...

OK maybe i missed heard, or maybe that's what he should of said..

Well, we can no longer hear Mad Dog on WFAN. But we can hear him on ESPN Radio. Mad Dog will be on the Michael Kay Show at 5:10 today. Never thought I would see this.
