On Mike and the Mad Dog today, MMD lackey Jon Heyman came on and started spelling out doom and gloom for the Yankees. That's when Mike said he was going to bring 'a little sunshine' to the Yankees. He then makes the argument that the Yankees haven't gotten anything from Pettitte or Wang, so they'll be all right eventually. First off, when I think of Mike Francesa, 'sunshine' is not the first word that comes to mind. Second, how long can he stand by his guns that the Yankees are going to be all right? He's not even entertaining the idea. Your passion is compelling Mike, but Yankee fans needed a realist today. (by the way, you should have heard Heyman thunder into Russo about Beltran wanting to 'blend in'. Perhaps he's been reading First Time's criticisms.)

I'm a die-hard Yankee fan (I'm allowed to say "die-hard" because I stuck with them through the '80s when they were the laughingstock of baseball). I really want to believe Mike but I don't. Wang might come around, and Pettitte probably won't be as bad as he was the other day, giving up 10 runs, but I'm not optimistic about them making the playoffs. Mussina is due to start sucking again, who knows how Joba will turn out, and Rasner is overachieving. I count three losses that they probably wouldn't have if Joba were still in the bullpen; who knows how many games they lost because they don't get hits when they need them. Cano -- with his talent, I think he'll be OK, but someone needs to sit him down and tell him to get his head out of his ass NOW.
That's the thing Gman and Anonymous. Mike says to throw "some sunshine" on things and points to the Yanks hanging in there despite Wang and Pettitte sucking lately and that they are due to turn things around. Well to "Throw some clouds" over things, Mussina and Rasner are due to start sucking.
By the way, I threw in the explanation of why I used "die-hard" because of Evan Roberts. A year or so ago he went off on a caller, claiming no Yankee fan can call themselves die-hard because they've been so successful over the last decade (another transparent excuse to remind everyone that he's only in his early 20s). Well, I think the Yankees' streak is ending, at least temporarily. But that clown Roberts is a subject for another blog...
