So there might be one tangible thing the Mets need to fix: They need to get David Wright … well, right. They need to help him work through his apparent anxiety in high-pressure situations. Big-picture: The Mets didn't make the playoffs because of their bullpen failures, as Jack Curry writes, but over the weekend, they mustered a total of five runs, and Wright had a whole lot to do with that. He cares so deeply that he puts enormous pressure on himself, and this trait seems to wreck him in big spots. He seems to leap at the ball when he's trying to hit with the game on the line. They need to address this.
I don't know how they do it. Maybe they get Wright to start talking to a sports psychologist, someone who might get the kind of help that has aided John Smoltz and Matt Garza and others. Wright is a cornerstone player who will be an MVP candidate in most years of his career, so the notion of trading him is silly. But they have to help him find a way to relax -- and if the team's best player relaxes, this will, in turn, take pressure off the rest of the team.
YOU SEE.. Buster said that the notion of trading Wright is silly. Mike thinks the Mets should trade Wright. So essentially Buster called Mike silly.

Mike did not call for the Metties to trade Wright---he suggested that the Mets need to break up the core, which has failed MISERABLY the past two seasons.
We all know that Reyes is the guy that needs to be traded. You can get by with a good shortstop, and Reyes is the most tradeable of the core guys---and has the lowest contract.
Therefore, Buster did not call Mike silly.
He's the most tradeable, but as you wrote, he has the lowest contract. Why would you want to get rid of the NL hits leader when you have him locked into a favorable contract?
It's time to downgrade the expectations of Reyes. If you do that, then he's overachieving his contract. 1st in Hits and triples, 2nd in steals, 7th in runs. What can you get back and what can you replace that with?
I like Wright, but also think he's overrated. Last week someone posted on the other site that the media treats him like a Little Leaguer: "Good try, Slugger; we'll get 'em next time." That's definitely true. Olney says he stunk because he cares too much? Give me a break!
btw, who heard Omar yesterday basically lead with "Jerry's good at handling the NY media" as one of the main reasons he should come back. What the Wilpons should do is get Omar from the Wire to come in and run the Mets.
Mike's late...WTF?
Johnny..Mike more than suggested the Mets should trade Wright. By the sounds of it, Mike made it seem like Wright is to blame for Lehman Brothers going under, Merryl Lynch getting bought out, the market dropping 700 points yesterday and the current situation in Iraq...Let me as you and MIKE this question: if wright hits that 2 run homer that beltran hit on sunday, Is mike suggesting that the mets trade wright?
gman, you trade Reyes with the favorable contract because other teams can afford that contract.
