Welcome to the Future

Well folks, the day has finally arrived. As Neil Best types out 3,000 "I told you so" emails, the truth is here: The Mike and the Mad Dog show is history. As you all know, Dog is gone, leaving Francesa to captain the ship for at least the next five years. Those tuning in today hoping to hear about Lincecum's 10 strikeout performance yesterday are out of luck. Today marks Day One of Francesa solo on the FAN. It will be an abbreviated show with a Mets day game up first, but it is definitely going to be an interesting experience. What will the theme music be? How will Mike open the show? How many times will he slip up and say "The Mike and the Mad Dog show?" How long until some horse racing talk? When will the first handwave come? Who will be the first official caller that makes it on air for Francesa on the Fan? So many questions. Just a few hours away...

Mike on MSG. He has spent the past few years knocking that netowrk, but he will gladly take their money.

MSG needs something. In the summer, they show nothing. They don't even show every Red Bulls game, which I find amazing. You have nothing to show, but given a chance to show something live, they pass. I know soccer is hardly a ratings draw in NYC, but it has to be better than the Game 365, which is repeated all day long.

YES has been good to MMD. They let them knock the Yankees, but will Michael Kay be allowed to do the same thing? Probably not.

I think Mike can do well on his own if he does the following:

1) Do some homework before getting on the air.
2) Get regular sidekicks to help out. Ex. Joe Blow every Monday. That way the audience knows who's going to come in and be the guest.
3) Do more than talk sports and take calls. I don;t want guy talk, but Doggie could liven up a dull day by talking about the pain of kids being scared of seeing other kids in Halloween costumes. Mike can't be just like Dog, but he has to do more than talk sports and take calls, especially if he is going to be on the air for 5 1/2 hours a day---by himself.

As much as Mike is crazy about the ponies, he won't be talking about them much in the near future. The Travers is this week, but I don't think it's a big field. I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to convince the Fan to send him to the Breeder's Cup for the week in Octobers. It's in sunny California and we know how much Mike loves the sun. He'll pack some Bullfrog and away he goes.

I think he will also make mention of how surprised he was at all the coverage that their break-up got...he will essentially pad his ego by nothing how big their show was...I also think he will be very energetic today sort of looking forward to the future of HIS show..

HIS SHOW won't last 6 months. The station (and secretly HIM) will be looking to save his fat ass with someone else within this time.....
As soon as the advertisers start to drop. ANd he will get more and more onery and disinterested as the weeks go by, watch.

I agree KBilly - Doggie to bash the Muts' pen would be great today. Also FTLT you have it right about Mike commenting on how much coverage the breakup got to pad his ego. Only problem now after this Pittsburgh comeback is he gets to rave about his man-crush, McClouth and how nice he'd look in some tight pinstripes, even if he had nothing to do with todays potential win
