Well, 3 days into his solo show, Mike Francesa has once again confirmed what we all already knew...that he refuses to come prepared for a show. Mike just had Jerry Manuel on and asked Jerry what he thought were a couple of very important questions. The questions were:
- Did Jerry feel that he needed to appoint one specific person to the closer role?
- Would Jerry fool with the idea of Maine as a closer?
Legit questions right? Only problem was if Mike decided to read the NY Post and the Daily News today, he would have already had answers to both items:
ON QUESTION 1 ABOUT CHOOSING ONE PERSON AS THE CLOSER..From today's Daily News:
"Still, Manuel, at least at this juncture, does not seem inclined to look for exclusivity in the closer role.
"What you have to be careful about," he said, "is anointing someone and then it doesn't work out."
"We'll just try to match up the way we have been and it'll depend on how the game is going (as to who will close). The good thing is, as we've gone through this, a lot of people have gotten saves."
ON QUESTION 2 ABOUT MAINE AS A CLOSER:...From today's Post:
"He needs more rest, needs those days off more than he needs to be a bullpen guy right now," said manager Jerry Manuel.
New show. Same old Francesa.

How, in GODS good name, can't you EVEN read the NY POST sports section, when youre job is to TALK about sports??
You would figure that he would come to work PREPPED, at least for a few weeks, just to show listeners that he is SO much better than MD, but I guess his laziness knows no bounds.
Today's show was rock bottom. Ultimate bore fest.
it's like Dog had Sirius radio put mike's show together...it was so bad that Sirius probably picked up a ton of subscribers
I guess those 1st place ratings bonuses Mike was talking about are coming to an end.
I am almost done with the show after today. I knoew Mike solo was boring, but today was God Awful. I think he spent a total of 15 minutes on baseball and the rest interviewing golfers, including one guy who isn't even full time PGA.
Glad I have Sirius.
Yeah, it's not like anyone's asking Mike to break out his dictionary and try to navigate the New York Times's sports section; it's the Post and the Daily News, for Pete's sake. I guess talk radio is like pretty much any job; as wages rise, actual work decreases.
As for today's show, to quote Imus: "Awful. Just ... awful."
This is sad. Really. I am stunned. I never liked WFAN, hated NY sports. But MMD was something different. I see no reason to listen to this boring, commercial-filled "content" anymore.
Two things: First, i feel like MMD was slipping in the last couple years. Be it laziness (palpable) or two guys past their primes, the show had lost some of its zip. Second, i feel like this site was a labor of love/hate (in equal parts). Today's show was troubling: who wants to rip/love a truly worthless and terrible show? This is sad. This is very bad. Mike is in quicksand.
Are we all in agreement then?
Next up: Maddog
Next DOWN: Maddog. Richer, but eventually, forgotten.
There IS a God.
