Rock-A-Bye-Russo

Nearing the end of a solo Russo show today and I have to say that Chris, much like rocking a baby to sleep, has lulled me into a catatonic state today. I just want to take a nap. Personally I have always prefered Dog solo to Mike solo. He is usually more engaging, better with the callers, full of energy. But today has been an exception to that. It has been a very tame show. No juice. No guest spots. Nothing. It has me thinking if solo Mike is perhaps a more "entertaining" show. Not that Francesa himself is more entertaining, but usually when he is solo, he will make bold statements without anyone there to refute them, his arrogance will be off the charts, he'll hand wave callers away at a rapid pace. And typically I will become quite annoyed listening to his pompous attitude. And that, in essence, creates a more entertaining experience. I don't know. After today's snooze-fest, I think I might be switching my vote to solo Francesa as the better show***

***Editor's note: The first full segment during a Francesa solo show on his experiences at Saratoga Springs this summer will place me back in Dog's corner.

i agree with you FTLT. I tuned in here and there today and couldn't get hooked. My big problem is how can these guys, during the dog days of summer not book any guests for the show. You got the Favre issue, which i hate, but get someone from Green Bay on. Mr Heyman actually had a detailed story on the Manny trade get him on. Xavier Nady had a big game, talk to him. The Mets are playing poorly get Howie Rose, someone. I am not sure what Sal does, but he doesn't do it well. BOOK A GUEST.

to follow up my own point, how about Mike or Chris talks to Joba? How about them talking to someone from Tampa, maybe Don Zimmer? What about getting Willie on after the Old Timers ovation? How about Ron Darling on the Mets? BOOK A GUEST. Give Chris someone to talk to other than the 40th straight caller on Favre. NO ONE CARES.

I'm still in awe, even though his ignorance shouldn't shock me anymore, that Dog did not know how many fucking teams there are in the major leagues. He guessed 32, then 28, then 29 -- yeah, Dog, it's an odd number, so one team has to take a whole weekend off while the rest of the teams play each other. You would think a man who hosts a sports talk show ... ah, never mind.

You're absolutely right, Lt. (and John Heyman does NOT count as a guest). Hell, Richard Neer had Shaun O'Hara on within 15 minutes of the start of his show! Granted, Dog has no business, and probably no interest whatsoever in, having a football player on his show; come to think of it, when he had a couple of Brewers on, even though the Mets weren't playing them, made me think that he's alienated almost everyone else in the sports world and will take anyone he can get. Which is why he winds up with Jeffrey Lyons.

Today's absurd moment or segment when Dog took ESPN to task for too much Favre coverage. He even at times compared his show with ESPN. Let's see ESPN's financial prop up ABC and Disney. How about you Dog? And he mentioned he could get through a day without talking about Favre. He even said, "I could slip in a little Beijing. I could slip in a little Andy Murray." He might has well have said "I could slip it in Anne Murray." His argument is why watch ESPN and their Favre lovefest when you could listen to me talk about a British tennis player who finally won his first Masters Series event. Only Dog could get away with that.

I chalk it up to the dog days of August (no pun intended) for the ho hum show today.

Gman....I actually agree with Russo getting all over ESPN for their Favre coverage. I'm sorry, but when you have a separate "Favre" category on the ESPN bottom line ticker, that is taking it too far.
