A LETTER TO GOD FROM CHRIS RUSSO

Dear God,

There are days when you make my life difficult. Timmy up at 2AM screaming, hamster's running free through my house, Jeanne trying to cook, the whole bit. There are years when you make my life difficult. See 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000. There are times when you make life seem cruel -the 2000 NLDS, the 2002 World Series, the 2003 NLDS. There are times when you make it hard for me to care. See Barry Bonds. But then...when I least expect it, you show me the light. You open a door that I never even knew existed. You give me the Tampa Bay Rays and their 71 wins on August 11th. You give me that 8 1/2 game lead over the Yankees. You give me an Angels sweep when all I could have ever hoped for was 2 wins. You give me Andy Pettitte unable to save the series. You give me a Yankee team that is 4 games back of Boston for the Wild Card. And just when I think you are done giving, you give me today's Pirates win over the Mets. You tease me with that 5-1 New York lead. You antagonize me with that solid Pedro Martinez outing. You toy with me with that David Wright 3-run homer in the first inning. But then you show me that glimpse of light again. You show me the door to the Mets bullpen opening. You show me a reason to wake up in the morning. You show me a reason to continue on. God, I am sorry for ever doubting you. I am sorry that I have been a non-believer. God, you have done right by me today. I will never doubt you again. Thank you God.

Yours truly,

Christopher "Mad Dog" Russo

No Doggie today? Given the rain, he's probably on his 3rd Gin & Tonic, dancing around the living room to Springsteen with an American flag wrapped around his shoulders.

I knew Mike would bring up the sparce attendance for today's Mets game.
