TO TV OR NOT TO TV

Handwave. This is a term used frequently on the web about Mike and the Mad Dog which refers to Francesa's waving off a caller(or his producer) when he's through with them. We at mikeandthemadblog have also received a few handwaves. But not from Mike. Anyhow, why are there handwaves? We shouldn't even know that they exist. Up until the YES network started airing Mike and the Mad Dog, you wouldn't have known his handwave from his Diet Coke. So why am I bringing this up? Because I'm a little old school. Mike and the Mad Dog were founded over the radio. Their following was fortified by the crackling of the airwaves across the New York metropolitan area. Too often, I am seeing references to their TV show. When you listen to them over the radio, it's up to our imagination to figure out what their facial expressions are like. It's more fun that way. Now, I do have a personal agenda with this. I live outside the New York area and I have Dish Network, which has a dispute with YES. Dish will never give into YES, so I won't be able to watch them on television. But I'm ok with that. Before I moved out of New York, I still mainly listened to them on the radio. It was more of a novelty to watch them on TV. Now I listen to them over the internet. It ain't old school, but at least it's authentic. Remember people. YES is just piggybacking.

Francesa had been on TV before, but for years I wondered what Russo looked like. I couldn't believe it the first time I saw him -- a beady-eyed, wildly gesturing little pipsqueak criticizing world-class athletes three times his size. I wonder if he wore the Marquis costume before they were on TV. And don't get me started on that creepy gold mask (that he eventually realized he was wearing upside down).
