A BIG SPOT

Mike just said that he didn't like how CC Sabathia pitched in a big spot last year in the playoffs. That got me thinking about the guys that Mike does actually trust in a big spot. Here's what I have right now. Who else:

- Jete-UH
- Mariano
- Andy
- Manny
- Beckett
- Ortiz

Does anyone else make this list?

Bernie. Or any Yankee from 1996-2000 except maybe Chad Curtis or Ruben Sierra.

Francesspool has mentioned Schilling as a "BSBG" (Big Spot Big Game) pitcher and also that overrated piece of candy ass...Bobby (80 runs scored in 1961!) Richardson.

i think he called oliver perez a "big game pitcher" today. not sure if that means that he'd trust him in a "big spot" though.

i'd like a ruling.

He'd count Manny twice.

Here's my ruling: Oliver Perez, in Mike's mind, canNOT be trusted in a big spot. Yes, he did say that Perez is a big game pitcher. However, he has also often said you never know which Perez you are going to get. True, Ollie steps up against the big teams, but the fact that he doesn't against other teams leaves that shadow of a doubt. To be trusted in a BIG spot, there can be no shadow of a doubt. There can be no uncertainty. And while Perez often comes up big in important games, he cannot yet be trusted in a big spot because of his blowup potential.

Also Joe Torre should be added to the list. Girardi, not so much at this point. Although after Mike's love fest with Jerry Manuel the other day, he might be closing to adding Manuel to the Big Spot Club.

How can you forget BRONSON ARROYO????

hmmm. Mike is definitely fixated on Bronson...BUT..i don't know that Mike would even trust him fully in a big spot. Yeah he misses bats. we all know that. But deep down in places Mike doesn't want to talk about, he wants someone other than Bronson on that wall. He needs someone other than bronson on that wall. Bronson does not make the big spot hall of fame.

FTLT,Is it possible we can keep a running list of the following somewhere on the website for a reference:

- Players MMD trust in a big spot

- players that made the stink list with the date of inauguration.

- tremendous performances and the date of said performance.

what else am i missing?

anonymous...thats a good idea with keeping track of players that make the stinks list and players that can be trusted in a big spot..we will look into this.

I also like the idea of keeping track of who made the stink lists, who can we trust in a big spot etc....

it's very important we record the date of their inductions, too...

like, if Dog says "Melky Cabrera stinks" on July 24, it would be good to know what day Melky was inducted into the "stink list."

And let me tell you, this hair he has across his big wide, coast to coast ass for Joba is really starting to piss me off.

Today a slob says Joba has pitched OK. OK??? I'm sure if the dick had WANTED Joba in the starting staff, he would be saying his performances would be nothing sort of sensational.

Truth is, simply the fact that if Joba gives up 3 runs the sky comes falling down tells you how good he could be. Barring any injuries, were looking a something reallll special. He may lose tonight, but hes the best rookie pitcher I've seen in NY in my life (I have to put him second behind Doc)
