IN AWE OF THE POWER OF CHRIS RUSSO

I have written about this in the past, but once again i find myself in awe of Christopher Mad Dog Russo. No, not of the fact that he mispronounces the majority of the names of athletes, or misuses words a 75% of the time. All those elements are part of the charm...

BUT.. If you have been watching the show on YES today or listening on the FAN what you will have seen during the second and third segments of the show are:
1. Russo wearing a Tampa Bay Rays hat as an officiall symbol of his seat on the Rays Bandwagon and then in segment 3..
2. Russo making the YES cameras focus in on the SI article on Tim Lincecum. He went page by page and counted the number of pages (i'm surprised he didn't count the words) that SI spent on the Giants ace. And then to top it off Russo screamed that he wouldn't trade him for Reyes and Wright!

Oh, by the way, RUSSO WORKS IN NEW YORK. He is a part of the premiere sports radio show in the biggest market in the world and roots against all New York teams! He openly hates the Yankees, roots for the Mets to lose so that he can talk to all the crazy fans, and then spends time talking about Wimbledon and the SF Giants!

It's amazing.. I just watched Russo go page by page about a Sports Illustrated article on Tim Lincecum!

If Russo really wanted to Ruffle some feathers he would wear a Kazmir jersey.

Great idea on the Kazmir jersey. that would be killing 2 birds with one stone.

I bet Russo was that annoying drunk guy at college parties that no one wanted there, but didn't have the heart to tell him.

All I can say is:

"People should take, say, an hour, hour and a half, and read the eight pages in SI..............

8 pages?
An hour? An hour and a half?

7 figures a year.......I crying right now, crying......

Did he really just say "I got a hall of famer?"

This is from the guy who never wants to say something like that for youngsters. Lincecum is in his 2nd year of big league ball. He's a tremendous talent, but don't try to tell me that Joba isn't going to be just as good. Joba made his 6th start last night. 6th!

Can he make 20 more starts before he starts saying that Joba isn't a pimple on Lincecum's fanny? No, it's Russo. I should know better.

That's his charm. He is more of a national sports talk host, not just New York. This is July, things are slow. Baseball has along way to go, remember at thgis time last year, the Mets were running away with the NL East. To quote Mike, "how'd that work out."

There are four Grand Slam tennis tournaments per year. Taling time out from "Mets Talk," and "Yankees Talk" is not a bad thing.

And, it's also good that Dog is not another New York fan, like Joe "Oh the Pain" Beningo and Evan "I Go to Every Met Game" Roberts. Evan, try getting a date once in a while.

As a matter of fact, just about everybody that works at FAN is a Met fan. We don't need Dog to do the same.

Remember, he roots for Nets.

I don't mind russo not being a ny team fan. BUT, there is a huge difference between NOT being a NY fan and being an out and out NY team HATER. His hatred for NY teams ALWAYS, ALWAYS leads him to make stupid, amateurish, idiotic remarks and predictions whenever he talks about the Yanks, mets, etc.

Now I know some people say he does this to rile up and get people to call in.........But, I don't buy that for one minute. And I'm sorry, but I would NEVER use Chris Russo and the word CHARM in the same sentance.

I gotta give you a lot of credit for a tremendous job on this blog. It gives me something to read at work when I can't listen to the show. Keep it up.

1. Is it me or does Russo seem to have a little more spunk in him the last few weeks? Seems more like the Russo of the early 90s than of the 2000s.

2. I love how Russo hates NY teams. Makes for much better radio.

Totally agree with this point.

russo has had his off days and on days.. today has definitely been better than monday. mike and chris both seem to always enjoy being solo hosts.
i have to say that russo solo wins over mike solo because chris has so much more personality.

Dog is better solo because he at least scribbles down what he wants to do. Big Mike just comes in with the Post, Daily News, Newsday, and the Times and thumns through them while fetching a Diet Coke and wonders what to talk about that day.

I love that Dog hates the New York team (exceot the Nets, mind you). Hate is strong word, but I strongly dislike most of the New York teams as well (except the football Giats).

Let's face it, most of the callers don't know what the hell they're talking about, and Chris and Mike are there to put them in their place.

I mentioned before that I missed Jerome from Manhattan. Well, after hearing him today with Joe and Evan, I think it's time for him to go on hiatus again, although my favorite line of all-time: "Get rid of Mondesi!!!!

A lot of callers mentioned today that they hope Mike and Dog stay together, but was it just me, or did I sense some "nervous I know the end is near chuckle" from Doggie today?

You would think that if Dog wanted to stay with Mike he would say something like "we have a contract," or something, but this sounds like it's a done deal.

These giys have argued about sports for 19 years, so that's nothing new. Does anybody know what happened off the air that has caused this friction that eventually spilled on to the airwaves. Did Doggie badmouth Roe, did Mike badmouth Jeannie or Timmy?

First time post..Heard the plug the other day, nice. Cant take Russo the whole day by himself. Always thought Fat guy was too rude. But together they click. Love the movies talk. Remember Dog and the duck that the greyhounds chased? What a mook."Johnny".. they always had their beefs . Once in 92 when Mike was on vacation Russo jokingly started the show by saying, "Welcome to....and the Mad Dog," leaving silence where the "Mike" should have been. Francesa was furious, calling several station bigwigs and demanding an apology.I think the problem now is just a culmination of things over the years. No egos involved here right? Thought Russo was off base with Arod madona comments today
Nice site...

Haaa!!

You don't want to know mr. weinberg.
I know that my hatred for these guys gets redundant. SOrry about that. Why do I hate them so much?

Undeserved inflated opinons of oneself, I guess.

I DON'T MIND EGOS, if they are earned, like say Ali, or someone like that. But, these guys? No, can't hack em.
