Fill Us In

We here at the blog have been away for the day. So what did we miss with Francesa flying solo today? How many Arroyo mentions? How many mentions that the Yanks need a "righty" bat? Tell us what we missed...

Mike's trade demands:
The Yankees NEED another starter good enough to "eat innings"
The Yankees could use a corner outfielder, has to be a righty. (Especially with posada and matsui all but officially out for the season).
Mets desperately NEED a corner outfielder, preferably righty, but could be a lefty.

Mike admits that Arroyo isn't a popular choice right now as a cheap starter, but argues that if you saw his recent performances against the Mets that you would want the Yankees to pick him up. He mentioned him at least a half dozen times, but less than usual.

The Yankees are in great shape right now 3 games into the second half. So are the Mets.

It was a pretty non-controversial (and boring) show.

Real low energy show.
The big news was he stayed up to watch the entire all-star game!

ps. added caveat "I still don't care about it though"

but "the game belongs here". With the inference that it doesn't belong anywhere else.

I tuned in for about :45 today and literally it was non-sensical.

He seemed to be in an exceptionally good mood. There were even a couple of callers who claimed to have met a certain player and had stories about them, and Mike didn't immediately cut them off.

He also had one of his awkward moments when he said something that he thought was funny, so you couldn't understand what he was saying because he was laughing so hard at his own joke. Of course, everyone else was silent; I could picture the guys behind the glass staring blankly at him while he's wiping his eyes.

Mike's main example for why the Yanks should take Arroyo is his performance against the Mets. Well Mike, that would be a great cheap pickup if the Yanks were facing the Mets again, but if it does it would be the World Series. I don't care what ballpark he's pitching in. He has a 5.71 ERA in the NL!
