"I would be all over him"

Sometimes Mike really does amaze me. We all know he is fascinated with Nate McLouth of the Pirates. But here's what he just had to say about him:

"If you wanted the perfect player for the Yankees, McLouth on Pittsburgh is the perfect Yankee player. He's a younger version, more powerful version of Damon, in his prime...plays centerfield, has a perfect Yankee Stadium homerun swing that he could actually hit 25-30 homeruns...bat leadoff, hit .280...I would be all over the Pirates to trade for him..."

Now Mikey, why in the F'ing world would the Pirates trade McLouth? He is making $425,000 a year and is 26 years old. Also, if you ever did a little bit of research before making absurd statements, you would have seen this nugget:

"The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that the Pirates have "a plan in place" to offer long-term contract extensions to both Nate McLouth and Ryan Doumit."

So Mike, WHY, WHY, WHY is Pittsburgh gonna give you McLouth? Cause you fleeced them once doesn't mean it's gonna happen again. Why stop there? Call Tampuh and see about getting Longoria and Kazmir. Call the Giants about Lincecum. Get the Reds on the line and see about Volquez...

Mike is still under the impression that virtually every other Major League team is in fact a Yankees' minor league team, that they can pluck players from.

And his man-crush for McLouth is just creepy. At least he didn't go on about his "blond locks" like he did a couple of weeks ago. (Or did he?)

Aren't the Pirates basically a farm team? I am sure the Staten Island Yankees have a higher payroll than the Pirates.

If I could pluck an outfielder it would be Josh Hamilton, but we've been over the McLouth thing already. He had a breakout season and has fallen back to normal of late. He is pedestrian and overrated. He has a .350 OBP and is slugging out of his mind right now on a terrible team. The Pirates would be wise to build around him and Doumit by offering them contracts right now, assuming they'd get good deals for them. Then you factor in Andrew McCutchen and some of the young pitching that they got from the Yanks, Dodgers, and that kid Hansen from Boston. And you hope Tabata pans out, meaning you could have a contending team at some point.

McLouth is a decent CF, better than what the Yanks have right now, but if I'm going to dump my farm system for a mid-20's CF, I'm going after Hamilton.

MVP candidates like Hamilton don't clear waivers. He's not available.

I never said he was available. McLouth ain't available either...

Yanks won. Sox won but the Rays lost.

A day after etching his name alongside Mark Spitz and Carl Lewis with gold No. 9, Phelps set a standard all his own when he won the 200-meter butterfly Wednesday morning.
