What We Have Learned Today

We have learned that the Yankees taking 2 of 3 from Baltimore is the lead story today in the New York baseball scene. We have learned that Girardi can't have it both ways when it comes to Joba's fist pumps. We have learned that Mike is still not happy with this Yankees team. We have learned that John Sterling never gives the score of the game. We have learned that when calculating the average age of the Red Sox, you can't include the 40-year-olds Wakefield and Smoltz, but you can include the 22-year-old Masterson. We have learned that Mike never expected Gardner to hit at the big league level. We have learned that Mike thinks Hughes has been somewhat disappointing. We have learned that Mike uses the word "core" far too much. We have learned Sabathia pitched a "gem" this weekend. We have learned that Mike uses the word "gem" too much. We have learned Nate McLouth's career is a waste because he plays for a terrible Pirates team. We have learned that Melky has looked a lot better at the plate this year. But we have also learned that Mike would love to pry that McLouth kid loose from Pittsburgh. We have learned that Damon's homer was far bigger than Arods. We have learned that for a person whose sole job it is to watch New York sporting events, Mike often ends up "missing that play" cause he was in transit. We have learned the Lakers will beat the Rockets. We have learned that no one is going to beat the Cavs. What we have not learned yet as of 2:19PM is if Mike Francesa is aware of another New York baseball team that has won 7 games in a row - a team that Mike left for dead a week ago...

We have learned that after Mike congratulated the Mets twice last week, this week he said, "God bless them".

Seriously? Not listening to him, but what a little baby he's being. I hate to think this way, but he's on the Mets radio network. Not saying they should police his opinions, but they should at least make sure he's not treating their team as an irrelevant afterthought. And that's what he's doing, and they should take some action. Thank goodness for Sirius.

I listened to Mike bash the Mets late last season, after the season, throughout football season, during spring training, and up until early last week.

As a Met fan I'm happy that Mike is showing his ignorance and not covering the Mets. My ears and intelligence needed this break!

I hope the Mets can continue their consistent play and not have another late season breakdown like the past 2 years. That is the only way to ultimately shut Fatso up for good.

I don't even care if he bashes the Mets. And the last couple seasons they've definitely deserved it. Like I said, his opinion shouldn't be filtered, they pay him $3 million a year for his opinions. He's a Yankee fan, Met-hater, I get that. That's fine. But it's this attitude about treating the Mets as irrelevant which should not be acceptable.

I agree wholeheartedly Ryan T!

And the Mets did deserve to be bashed but Mike got personal/out of hand/ and totally unprofessional with it.

I also agree that Mike has a responsibility to report on the Mets and their recent good fortune, but my point all along about Mike is that he is'nt professional in any respect and gives basic fair and honest jouralism a bad name.

I have no idea how this guy has made a career doing this nor how in the world he keeps his job.

And as I typed in that last post--- Mike is reporting on the Mets!!!

In a very belitleing, sarcastic, and condescending manner.

Go figure. JD

mike is incapable of talkng about a long met winning streak without the obligatory condescending "this team might win 30 in a row and never lose again" comment...

This sarcasm is driving me nuts.

First Time, Long Time said...

Loki...it's like a bad drug habit that Mike can't quit - it's so predictable that when the mets are going good Mike will ignore it for as long as possible, then downplay their opponents and lastly offer lots of sarcasm...funny you never hear him say "the yanks might never lose again, this could be 40 in a row.."

I never thought Mike was that clever but I think this slighting of the Mets is calculated. He realizes that Mets fans are irate and so he's just stoking the fire some more.

First Time, Long Time said...

gman...it is def calculated but it's also b/c he knows that a week ago he all but declared the met season over - they had no heart, no edge, the phillies were winning with worse pitching, etc...so what's he gonna say after a 7 game win streak with half of it vs division opponents..

gman26: I consider Mike to be very clever! I also consider him to be a dispicable person with a very cold and calculated thought process.

It is those reasons above that I think really provoked the breakup between him and the DOG.

I have never had a doubt that Mike "Talks down" to the Met fan and tries very hard to get under our skin. This current ignoring of the Mets is just the latest in his bag of tricks.

It is for this reason why I'm enjoying his vacation from Met baseball. It is also the cause of my confusion as to how this guy has his job?

What we will learn tomorrow is how much Mike likes to talk about the Mets when they don't win.

Yankee off day kind of leaves Mike with no choice but to finally lead with them. Of course, it's just Mike's luck that it is after their first loss in a week.

what i didnt appreciate was when mike mentioned the all-steroid team and ivan rodriquez for catcher came up and fatso was like, "no, i think there's another catcher out there that would start on the all-steroid team" implying piazza. i think its terribly irresponsible for a radioman to fuel RUMORS like that.

sure theres speculation because god forbid someone not drafted in the first round becomes a successful ball player, but i dont think its right that fatso puts players that have never been caught up in the allegations with the likes of giambi, arod, irod, sheffield, clemens, pettitte, knoblauch, grimsley, david justice, glenallen hill...

wait, did i just come up with an all steroid-yankee team?

mike couldnt have asked for anything better than a met loss the way it went down last night with bad errors by wright and reyes and awful managing by manuel. he will have a field day with last night's game...

and the real issue with mike is that i dont expect him to award the mets their world series rings off a 7 game winning streak but on the flip side i also dont exoect break up the core talk today off one loss...but replacing jerry manuel talk would suit me just fine

Any chance you guys can update or remove the poll and "Talk to me in August" section on the right sidebar?

It's a bit outdated. Just saying.

Ryan - Excellent call. I've made a slight adjustment with today's show in mind.
