Worst Sports Week of the Year?

Trivia Question: What are the only two days of the year with no American sporting events scheduled?
Answer: The day before and the day after the MLB All-Star Game.

Maybe you consider tonight's Home Run Derby a sporting event. But then again maybe you consider the Second Ammendment a privlege and not a Constitutional Right (Sorry, gman26).

So that leaves Mike aboslutely nothing to talk about until Friday. Dog, wisely, took the week off after last week's meltdown.

Mike has some fodder for today, Yanks getting swept by the Los Angeles Angels of Ananheim Sounthern California, United States but catering to the Mexican market by pretending that Ananheim isn't over an hours drive from L.A....and the Mets winning two of three from the Small Red Machine, including back-to-back HRs and the Apple failing to recognize either until after the inning was over.

I had Boomer and Carton on for about a minute this morning and they did mention Gattis' tragic death. I'm not sure of how much they got into it but I think Carton may have turned it into a "strippers gone wild" segment.

They did mention how Omar/Manuel can't tell the truth and their hatred for Church did prompt last weeks move.

And now for another worthless prediction from JD:

Mets vs. Braves 4 game series
Church 8 for 16. 4 home runs. 10 RBIs

Francoeur 1 for 16. zero HRs. zero RBIs

I don't consider the Home Run Derby a sporting event. It takes about an hour and a half too long and after the second hitter I wish Chris Berman would be choked to death as he says, "back, back, back" as if it is a shock a home run is being hit.

It's brutal and boring. Here's my main problem. The hitters get to pick their pitchers, so I think they should also have to swing at every pitch. They can't stand there and wait for a good pitch or else anything not swung at is a strike. You shouldn't get the luxury of cherry picking if you get to pick the pitcher. At least in my mind.

Also, I can't wait for Frenchy to come back to Atlanta this week. He will not be booed, I know he will be cheered because there are so many little kids and horny sex deprived moms who love him. It wouldn't shock me if he turned those numbers around and had Church's numbers. He can be great when he focuses, which is maybe 10% of the time.

It's been a good start for Frenchy thus far and I have high hopes for the boy.

Brandon Inge is in the Derby tonight. What?

Bengoodfella said...

You keep having hopes for Frenchy. I remember feeling that way. It's much like finding out a crazy ex-girlfriend is dating someone knew. It could turn out well for the new guy (the Mets here) but I am not holding out hope.

Either way, I hope he plays well because he was done in ATL.

When is FATSO... sorry I mean Mike back?

Sean, I completely forgot to comment on your comment that Brandon Inge was in the home run derby. I agree with you. Sorry, if I don't get excited for the derby when Brandon Inge is one of the participants.

I think the Derby is just an excuse for Chris Berman to annoy me when it is not football season.

I personally probably look forward to the derby moreso than the ASG itself, but that might just be because it is something different from the norm. But I can't wait for the season to resume. I'm sure Mike is going to come back all tanned, looking like a fat piece of smoked bacon.

Mad Dog Radio station manager Steve Torre came by to confirm reports that Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo had fired everyone who worked for the channel last Thursday: "He let me go Thursday. But now I'm back. He's reinstated me. It was not a stunt." Steve explained that Mad Dog had been upset by his channel's ratings - but now everyone expected things would return to normal: "We're good. He's on vacation now. I think it's gonna blow over."

When is Mike coming back?

I used to be into the All Star game when I was younger but don't care about it any more. Of course root for the Yankees in the games, but other than that I could care less. It was good to watch last year's game at Yankee Stadium though.

HR Derby = boring to me. Didn't tune in last night for one "pitch"

Making a point about gun laws on a Mike and the Mad Dog blog? Really?

Whatdoyouhave? said...

Ahhh, ok now I see there was discussion on this issue over the weekend

You have to stay tuned...

Whatdoyouhave? said...

I sure do. Try to check in over the weekend usually, and was actually out of office yesterday. I won't voice my opinion on the issue but I agree with GMan that politics should stay off this site. I also don't care to hear actors or sports stars voicing their opinions on those types of issues either. We watch your movies / sports games because you're good at that particular skill. No thanks on your political agendas

KBilly, your thoughts on Sarah Palin's resignation as Alaska governor?

How about stem cell research?

Hope the blog police don't arrest me for asking.

Palin is a tool. She's pretty hot for a 40+ chick, but she sank McCain.
I am all for any research that may cure any disease.
Let's not get TOO political here...

There are no blog police going to slap on the cuffs. If you want to criticize sports media like Lupica, I'm all for it. He's a pretty easy target. I've spoken with the man and he is a jerk as advertised.

But the point is if you want to espouse Rush Limbaugh's views, do it on the Rush Limbaugh site. We all agree on discussing Mike and Chris here and we often disagree about them. Let's not bring in other topic that makes us even more disagreeable.

Capiche?

KBilly said...

I do think, however, that EVERYONE should have a gun.

There's a reason they made it the #2 most important thing when they wrote the bill of rights.

KBilly said...

Gman26, You have met midget Hitler Lupica??? Did you tell him that he's a jerk?

As if the HR Derby wasn't boring enough, I was on the edge of blowing my brains out having to listen to Joe Morgan. That ESPN cast is god awful.

Ryan T. said...

I only saw about 4 seconds of the derby, but did they REALLY mimick Fox's failed hockey puck digital trail and use it on EVERY hit? That looked extremely annoying.

Adam the Bull and Kim Jones on midday show now - their text poll is "Which Peanuts character does Tim Lincecum look more like?"

Sports radio at its best

Count me in as not a big fan of the HR derby! It was interesting when it first came out but now it's overdone.

I saw all of 20 seconds of it.

I'm not too sure if I'll see more of the actual All Star game either. It's great to watch as a kid but these athletes stopped being my all-stars, heros, idols a long time ago.

I'll watch Deadliest Catch. Those guys show real guts while trying to earn a living.

JD

Whatdoyouhave? said...

So with his second plug in a few weeks of Deadliest Catch, I'm guessing JD is moonlighting as a Discovery Channel ad exec when not watching the Mets

Anonymous said...

Ha Ha! I wish I was an ad exec.

I'm too Blue collar for that so I guess I just relate better to these Deadliest catch and Ice Road trucker types than I do with these overpaid babies that call themselves athletes.

I was just listening to Joe and Evan and Joe did without the HR derby and instead tuned into MLB network to watch the 1971 All Star game.

Now that was great baseball with some true athletes.

Gotta disagree.

Her hotness is the only reason McCain got the votes he did.

If she wasn't a threat, you wouldn't have heard the attacks on her.

Face it, the left could not DEAL with her looks. It didn't matter if she never opened her mouth, she was in the crosshairs. Face it, she was BY FAR, the most attractive GOP candidate ever, something the left isn't used to.

Oh yeah, and Mike bites the big one, just to keep on topic.

Whatdoyouhave? said...

Palin definitely hurt the ticket - not helped.

gabagool said...

Right. Thats why she's the rights star for the next run.

Only the left would say she hurt. Her approval on the right and undecided was ALWAYS sky high during the election.

Mr. Cardboard was the problem.

Whatdoyouhave? said...

Haha, I'm def not left but I think (could def be wrong) very high probablity McCain was going to die in the next four years and people who were undecided couldn't deal with this lady being president.

Would love to see the stat where undecided people gave her sky high approval

gabagool said...

Gee, what a lucky guess on your political affiliation. Ok, here you go....

69% of GOP Voters Say Palin Helped McCain
Friday, November 07, 2008

Sixty-nine percent (69%) of Republican voters say Alaska Governor Sarah Palin helped John McCain’s bid for the presidency, even as news reports surface that some McCain staffers think she was a liability.

Only 20% of GOP voters say Palin hurt the party’s ticket,

Theres one. Don't believe me, google it.

Undecided? REAL undecided? Here you go.....

This is from SALON...of all places:

That's because voters seem to like Palin far more than they like McCain, if recent polls are any indication. Once she joined the ticket, McCain moved ahead of Obama among white women, picked up independents and extended his lead among white men. Palin is getting people who otherwise weren't planning to vote for McCain to come over to his side, because they liked her convention speech or find her fascinating

Look, if she wasn't scaring all the left wing "its better to look good than be good" so much attention wouldn't be being paid.
Me, I think its all looks, and that pathetic aspect is scaring the SHIT out of the left. SHows how much substance you all have.

Hey, enjoy Obama while he lasts, so far, so not good, huh? I know, I know....its Bush's fault.......
Palin is NOTHING, and she's got you all running scared. Pathetic.

OH, this is sports.......uh,,,,Mike sucks....
