The Bore that is Bernazard

Quick! Name one other VP of Player Development in MLB...Come on now, just one. Can't do it, huh? Me neither. Is no one concerned that we hear more about Tony Bernazard than we do half the players?

This is just another sign of the dysfunction that is the NYM. Not the 2009 NYM, specifically, the entire franchise, all-time. What a horribly run franchise. Never, and I mean never, do they make the right move. Personally, I think this ridiculous story (and it is ridiculous; I mean, who cares what a minor league exec says or does to a bunch of also rans in Binghampton) and the ridiculous trade rumor for Halladay are simply smoke screens originated from the Wilpons to keep the attention of the horrible team trotting out there daily. It's political and it's bad form.

Turn on either of the sport stations and within virtually every segment some idiot, caller or host, is calling for Bernazard's head. Why? Why this outrage? Who cares? You think the Mets have 52 HR's for the year because of Tony Bernazard? Think Ollie is walking 7/9 innings because of TB? Think you put TB in the NYY system that ARod and Tex will stop hitting 4 HR's per game? No way. Leave Bernazard alone and let's put the blame where it belongs: Players, GM and manager, in that order.

Well said AwesomeSean!

Yesterday Carton challenged Boomer to answer who in the Yankee orginization had the equivilant position as Bernazard. Boomer could'nt do it. That position should be rarely seen and never heard from!

Today Joe B. listed former Mets who went on to throw no-hitters and those who threw no-hitters before they became mets. Yet no Met has ever tossed one.

I can make a list of former greats who became Mets and stunk Shea out. Another list of former greats, became average players for the mets, and went onto another team and became great again.

It's amazing(and not in the amazin mets)!!! The Mets spend money-YES- but they never get what they pay for. Possibly the only two exceptions have been Johan and Piazza!

I have my own problems in life. I love sports because it offers me a diversion from my daily grind. This team and its management is only adding to the frustration of each day.

Now Omar and Mike are tight. I've admitted several times I only watch Mike because it is like waiting for a train wreck to happen and I want to see the wheels come of if and when. But Mike knows he is controversial and I think it provides him with ratings(it can't be his good looks or personality). Could it be that Omar has taken a page from his playbook? The fake trade offer of Halliday? Now the Bernazard Bullshit?

Either way this is a team out of control and no amount of damage control is going to get me to drink the "Met Kool Aid" for a while.

Matt Holliday to the Cardinals for three prospects.

Could have been a deal for the Mets but they DON'T HAVE ANY PROSPECTS!!!!

Tonights game:

Santana vs. Mike Hampton

How did Hampton perform as a NY Met???

I've vented and feel much better.

Yeah the Mets suck.

Hampton had the second best season of his career with the Mets. 15 wins, 3.14 ERA and he was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in the 2000 NLCS. Since he has left the Mets, he has never regained that form. So I'm not sure that fits your theory, JD.

Hey fantasymixx.

I've never been a stat person and maybe my recollection of Hampton is off, but I do remember him coming to the Mets as a "star" after a 22-4 season with the Astros and only staying 1 year with the mets.

Maybe I should give him credit for admitting that he wanted out of NY but I do think it somewhat fits the theory but certainly not the best example.

After hearing tonights matchup it struck me as a bit "Bret Favre" like.

Not listening. Glad to see Minaya is consistent. Joe Morgan, somewhere, is smiling. Nice catch Loki.

Yeah, JD, it's true that Hampton being bad as a Met is a fallacy along with RJohnson being bad as a NYY and Scott Brosius being good, ever.

You guys really think it's not important that the Mets VP acts like this and faces no consequences? It says everything about how the franchise is run, and it indicates to me that the organization is currently a disgrace and not very encouraging for the future.

Meanwhile, what really is boring is this whole Saratoga thing that Mike is desperately trying to get back on his TV. Do you have to waste air time with this? Can't you do it during one of your numerous 20 minute breaks throughout the day? Has Mike even received a single call on the issue from a listener between yesterday and today? Enough! This whole situation is even more boring than the interview with the owner of the Islanders. You can say it, we know you're moving to KC...and not too many people care. As a Rangers fan, I say good riddance!

This phone call with the two guys about the horse racing thing on Mike's show right now is embarassing

Hey bigjf,

Actually I think it is very important that Bernazard has acted the way he has.

What I'm trying to say is that it should have been a non event. He did this or brought undo attention to the franchise and should have been let go with no questions asked.

I think most fans are in agreement that the Mets are an absolute mess as a orginization and this scenario just backs that up. They can't even see what everyone else sees and they are proving themselves to be a mockery.

Man, you said it perfectly as far as why I listen to him also. I WANT to be listening when his ego costs him his job and hopefully his career. I really thought it came with the Jewish loyalty oaths him and his equally witless compadre were running. But you got it just right. I thought I was the only one.

But, I disagree with you Awesome. I think Bernazard is a SYMPTOM. A symptom of the disease that has to be CUT OUT of the Mets in order for them to begin to heal and function like a professional organization. Winning organizations would not ALLOW a person like him to be employeed. Not that he himself could reak havoc, but people like him are dangerous because they INFECT others. Their attitude, their ego, their pettiness, NONE of these could or should be tolerated.

If the Mets view on their FO ability, is it crazy to assume their opinion of their players is equally as lacking??

AwesomeSean said...

Gabagool...not saying it should be tolerated only saying it's well down on the list of issues to address. Sure, the guys sounds like a real creep but that's not why they suck.

Loki...Can you call Michael Kay and explain him the principles of Moneyball please? I mean, he's only a baseball guy for 20 yrs. He shouldn't have to understand baseball theory, should he?

gabagool,

You're definitely not the only one!

Granted there is'nt much going on with afternoon TV, but I was a fan of the Mike and the Mad Dog show. I enjoyed Dog and did'nt like Mike much but tolerated him.

I still blame Mike for the departure of Dog and this past year has been a chore to stay tuned into Mike for more than an hour at a time.

I continue to watch Mike because I want to witness his own "IMUS" moment.

I think we've come close to witnessing a breakdown or two which I don't wish upon anyone but I sure will be happy to see him get the AX.

How long do you think it will take to watch his ego deflate on TV?

Sorry Awe

Scott B FORGOT more about clutch hitting than the Mets thirdbaseman will ever know........but to be fair, its not like Dave has ever had a CHANCE to shine in the WS, has he??

And their fielding is night and day.

Oh, and someone mentioned Hampton ADMITTED he wanted out.....he said the reason he left a good situation for that pitchers park was the "school systems".....think about that one for a minute. A multi multi millionaire, living in NY, WORRIED about the local school systems...........

bigjf said...

Ok, JD, I misread you. I agree fully.

I wouldn't judge Bernazard by his conduct.

Mike Singletary removed his pants and got a contract extention because the 49ers won 6 of their last 8.

Bob Knight chrew chairs and wiped his backside during halftime of a game and was at Indiana for 30 years and won 2 NCAA titles.

But Barnazard is incharge of player development. The system doesn't seem to be stocked with developed young talent. That's how I judge him.

He developed a SS who's leading the NL in errors. He's got his top OF prospect looking like Mr Magoo in the field. And not a single servicable 1B in the system, so he takes a 3B, moves him to LF and then to 1B.

Gabagool...something about Hampton always rubbed me wrong. The quote about the schools simply validated it.

Scott B was a good player on a great team. NYY fans totally overrate him simply because of the team. At the end of the day he is not in the same world as Wright or in the same universe as ARod. It's actually quite simple.

Speaking of boring, John Franco on the FAN today with Adam the Bull

bigjf said...

I can't blame Mike for taking another vacation. One whole week of working radio is highly strenuous stuff! And besides, nothing exciting going on this week, what with the MLB non-waiver trade deadline and all. Even with that, it's not like there are some huge names rumored to be on the move or anything like that...

Getting back to the original topic of this old post, the Mets are apparently going to fire Bernazard finally. It only took a week or so to make an easy decision...

I love the Mets PR team...For the first time in forever, the Mets have a good weekend. Instead of allowing people to write about that they bump the team from the spotlight and fire Tony Bernazard. This team needs to adopt the Costanza philosophy of doing the opposite of their initial thought. Bunch of idiots over in Queens and a bunch of idiots across the country rooting for those idiots. Like me.

You're right Loki!

You go first and show us how it's done so we don't mess it up like Mets management.

We'll follow I promise. LOL

In all seriousness- does anyone else subscribe to mets emails and get that weak email from Omar trying to explain the Bernazard situation?

The Mets can mess up just about anything and now they want us to read emails explaining their mistakes.

Give us a break!

Hmm interesting, especially after that ridiculous press conference. Anyway one of you guys can post that on the site?

Anonymous said...

Whatdoyouhave?

Not only am I a Met fan but also computer stupid that's why I still post as anon(LOL).

I saved the email and can forward it as an email. When my GF gets home from work I'll see if she can forward it to this site.

I had Adam and Franco on for 5 minutes today but could'nt take anymore. Without Mike on TV I'm clueless about the Omar press conference. I suppose the email I got just reiterated whatever he said during the conference. I just find it ironic that he needs to involve the fans on a decision that he should have made a week ago.

According to the "Bar A" website Fatso will be there Friday August 21st for his annual show(of course anticipate him being late).

I'll actually be driving back north from Wildwood that day so a stop at "Bar A" is possible.

Oh well you may have missed the key part - Omar trying to pull a fast one and throw the Daily News writer under the bus, saying he was angling for Bernazard's job. Then when asked about it he really had nothing to say, so it looks like Wilpon told him to say that... Just another mess for the Mets. Joe B and Evan killing ownership and Minaya right now

Anonymous said...

Sounds like I should be glad I missed it than.

I'm sick of this Soap Opera called the New York Mets!

I bet Adam Rubin could run that organization better than the Wilpons. Couldn't take too much effort to do so...
