All Kinds of Wrong and Some General Nitpicking

I didn't hear much of the Fan today so I can't really comment on much of what was said earlier. I missed the Johnny Franco experiment along with nearly all of Joe and Evan. I'm sure there was some doozies, but alas, I cannot mock much of it. If you can, please do. In the meantime, I wanted to speculate on what Franco probably said. I am sure it included phrases like:

- leader
- clubhouse presence
- orange T's
- Brooklyn boyz
- intangibles
- playing the game the right way

He's a broken record and he's not alone. It's just his turn to get picked on. The above phrases, of course, are in reference (mostly) to his analysis of the Mets season.

OK, now, there is an article (does she write with a Baaastaaaan accent, too?) from Suzyn Waldman which is just puke. The mocking of said article can be found at Baseball Think Factory. Enjoy.

Couple more things since I am really feeling nitpicky.

Heard a few seconds of Donnie Pucks interviewing Larry Bowa today (ex-Phil, ex-Phil manager and ex-NYY 3rd base coach; big fav of mine) and he asked him whether he was surprised about ManRam's heroes welcome over the weekend and whether or not he thought he'd receive same welcome if he played on the East Coast. Larry responded by saying that he wasn't surprised and that he'd not get that reaction in NY, Bos or Philly. Which of course, is an outright lie. Does he think if Utley got a 50 game ban, came back and homered Philly wouldn't cheer? If the same thing happened to Wright, Citi Field wouldn't cheer? Is he mental? Brain tumor for breakfast, or what?

Lastly, I want to introduce a name that I don't think we've discussed here at M & MB: Seth Everett. Has anyone here listened to him? Well, I caught his opening monologue today and the steady barrage of nonsense is staggering. First, he's wondering why no one is making a big deal about Torre's "return" to NY since "the book." Here are some reasons:

1. We all forgot about the stupid book
2. He can't hit the ball 450 feet and stare into the Queens night
3. He can't throw 98 MPH to David Wright
4. He was never that important
5. Mets fans don't care and never did
6. Yankees fans moved on Opening Day 2008

Then, he goes on and on like Torre wanders the Earth curing the blind and ruining bullpens. Oh yeah, he also said that Manny Ramirez is now on his "No Interview" list. Nothing like a little self-importance when 90% of the listening audience is tuned into 660 or 880. Idiot.

There is no doubt in my mind that a Philly or NY crowd would stand up and cheer one of their players if they came back from a 50 game steroid suspension. No doubt in my mind.

Besides that, let's be honest, most California fans are of a different breed anyway. I don't want to stereotype them but I will do it anyway. They seem like the laid back late arriving type, so Manny coming from a suspension would still get a standing ovation from them no matter what.

The Joe Torre book is incredibly old news, as is Torre's return to New York. I had forgotten about the book and it has been buried under the rest of the news of the baseball season because it really wasn't that shocking or interesting to begin with.

Yeah, entirely my point re: book. No one cares now just like no one cared two weeks after it came out. This clown, Everett, is apparently the biggest Torre fan ever. Whatever.

I can say with 100% certainty that if D. Wright came back from suspension and hit a HR I'd pump my fist and cheer. Steroids are boring anyway. I bet you'd do the same with Chipper.

Are Mets fans happy you don't have to listen to Mike as the Yanks cruise and the Mets continue to slide?

I would stand up and pump my fist and cheer if Chipper hit a HR at this point. He has 1 HR since June 9th so I would not mind if he decided to start roiding a little bit...but I get what you are saying.

I am not as against Joe Torre as I used to be but I am certainly not his biggest fan. The only reason that book was news at the time is because there was nothing else baseball related going on.

Steroids should be the choice of the individual. A PED is ANYTHING that makes you feel better.

If people are worried about kids finding out, here's something novel.....DON'T REPORT IT. Kids are learning about it NOT because athletes take them its BECAUSE THE MEDIA REPORTS IT IN ORDER TO SELL, SELL, SELL. Kids know because of the MEDIA, not the players.

And on top of it, the truth about steroids has been so friggen distorted now the majority of people don't even have a clue what the real dangers are. You think Lyle Alzado died from steroid use? Think again.

You want to take steroids? Go ahead, I don't need to know about it.

Just my 2 cents as usual:

I also could'nt care less about the steroids! A great ballplayer(Bonds, A-Rod, Manny, etc) has to have great talent and skills to do what they do regardless of the added strength. It's their bodies to use and abuse as they see fit and they will pay for it in the end via bad health.

I'm surprised Suzyn ripped on Joba like she did. She, like the rest of the Yankee pumpers, never have a bad word for their beloved Yanks. Is this Jeters best year ever??? Maybe because he's in the leadoff spot but from a pitchers perspective he does'nt scare me like the rest of the lineup does.

I wish Mike was around just to hear his take on the lack of moves by Omar Minaya and the fact that the Mets deserved to be ripped to shreds right now. Mike will come back to the Yanks in first place and the Mets basically out of the playoff picture at the all star break. He will be coming back- well fed/well rested/tan/ and as happy as a Francesa at an all you can eat buffet.

Be careful what you say about Joe Torre. I'm not a fan either and think Stevie Wonder could have managed the Yanks to those championships. I also think the Yanks will win the series this year, but if they don't it will have a lot to do with how Girardi handled or did'nt handle this club. The Yankees need Joe Torre this year.

I don't dislike Torre. But I hate what his persona did in New York. Since he was winning titles, all managers were expected to sit in the dugout in a catatonic state just like him. If you weren't St. Joe, then you were awful. Bobby V basically got run out of town because he was 'top step Bobby'(was he the first manager to stand on the top step? I think not.) and not stoic Joe.

Think the Mets could use Bobby right now. Even before the injuries, Manuel has shown that he can't get the job done here.

That 1998 Met team was Bobby V's work of genius. 88-74 with a starting outfield of Butch Huskey, Bernard Gilkey and Brian McRae. A daunting pitching staff of Leiter, Reed, Jones, Yoshii and Nomo. He was able to coax 5 wins out of Mel Rojas with a 6 ERA.

Where are you Bobby V?

This myth that the Yanks last dynasty could have been managed by anyone just doesn't stand up.

If the Yanks had the same basic lineup and staff, ok, maybe the point is well taken. But that is NOT the case.

Over the 4 championship years, the Yanks had:

2 catchers. Mainly Girardi and Posada.

2 second baseman- knoblach and Duncan.

2 thirdbasemen- Hayes and Brosius

About a million left fielders

Torre had MAJOR changes in the starting staff.

Pettitte was there for all 4. Cone for 3. But the rest of the starters ranged from wells to Key.

The closers changed. Wetteland, Rivera.

The 8th inning guys changed. Rivera, Loyd, stanton

On top of that, I had to listen to the NONSTOP bullshit from a mumblemouth sorry excuse for a sports talk host CONSTANTLY saying that too many Yanks were named to the allstar teams, and that they were not the most talented bunch, blah, blah, effen blah......well, its got to be one or the other. Either this was a crazy talented team that one FOUR (4) championships and narrowly missed a fifth OR it was a workman bunch of team players, where you could change MANY pieces and all bought into Torre's scheme.

Look, I think Torre is NOWHERE NEAR the nice guy he portrays, and he may never win another championship again, but he was the ONLY guy who could have done that with that team, he was the PERFECT fit.

I mean, remember when the little worm kept saying DURING THE RUN, that the Yanks could have won with Arod or Garciaparra at short, that Jeter was overrated? Ha! You pathetic little imbreed! How many of us can say that now? Win four championships ...WITH AROID? OR GARCIATESTOSTERONE? Please, effin please. Streaks like that only happen everything goes right.

Torre was like a father figure to those championship teams and I think this current team may need that as well instead of the more contemporary Girardi.

Torre took over a team that had its "core" in place and the other moves were just good but basic moves.

Yes Torre was the perfect fit at the perfect time and does deserve credit for those championships, but he did'nt have to work too hard with those teams and I'd like to think I could have managed them to some world series rings as well.

Gaba...I gotta agree with JD on this one. I just happen to think that managers don't do that much. I think they can take things off the table a la Willie and Manuel but don't add a lot. I think a lot of competent managers would've won those years. Plus, except for 1996, the Yanks were better than their WS comp and 1996 is arguable.

Whatever, it was a special team and a great run. That's it.

Going back to the original point, though...Torre's return is not newsworthy considering the Mets troubles, Yankees hot streak and ManRam.

AWESOME AND JD-

1978. Martin has his team in turmoil. He's fired. Lemon is brought in.

The Yankees won that year because of Bob Lemon. Guidry was the SECOND most valuable Yankee. There really is no other thought here.

ANds its been repeated with the Mets and BV. The worst team I've ever seen make the WS. THAT was 99.9% BV.

And the Red sox can thank their lucky stars that they have you they have at the helm. There's NO SUCH THING AS COINCIDENCES. And its NO CONINCIDENCE that they go some 90 odd years without winning one and then win 2 in 3 years.

BASEBALL managing is so underrated.
Its such a long season. The babysitting part of it is so much more important than people give credit.

But I hear what your saying. You definately are NOT alone in your opinion.

But then again why listen to a stupid MF who can't get the knack of posting just once.

Nevermind. I COULD HAVE MANAGED THE YANKS TO THOSE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
