Francesa No Longer Top Dog at FAN

Check out this article that Neil Best blogged about...The 100 most important radio talk show hosts in America. Boomer/Carton are ranked ahead of Francesa. Dog isn't even on the list. These rankings seem rather absurd but nonetheless Francesa has to be annoyed by this....

I think Francesa has a crush on Brad Van Pelt. He has called him handsome about 35 times.

Nice find FTLT...This CANNOT make Mike happy, not at all. Look, Boomer and Carton are good early in the season. Can they deliver in a big spot? Are they clutch?

All kidding aside, I think it's now quite evident why the Fairness Doctrine is being pushed.

Mike trying to prove to us that he has a heart. I have to admit I did enjoy his opening, even if it was just recapping TV watching last night. The story about the kid golfer was amazing, but I hadn't seen the other story.

What the FUCK is Mike talking abou today with the NBA trade deadline one hour away???

Whatdoyouhave?

Don't let Mike fool you-- he is trying to portray that he has a heart but he is just trying to mask his desire to be the first in town to be on top of these stories.

Did you notice how he said he contacted Jim Nance right away regarding the young golfer and when introducing the father of the kid shot he had to mention how other media must be trying to interview him as well.

I don't think Mike has a single "sincere or caring" bone in his body. Mike is way too transparent!!!

Mike is just trying to pad his ratings. Of course he is acting like this is all breaking material but he admitted to getting both stories from last nights HBO real sports!

Once Mike starts taking phone calls he'll be back to his usual ignorant/arogant/obnoxious self.

JD you're right. And believe me, I didn't fall for it - I said "trying to prove" he has a heart. It was just interesting to me that ther was a follow up because I remember seeing the story 2 years ago when they found the cancer in his eye.

And Anon makes a good point that NBA trade deadline is here in 2 hours (?) with possible serious deals for Nets and maybe even Shaq going to Cleveland. Don't care for / know much of NBA besides Knicks but a lot of other people do. About time Jerome James and Malik Rose are gone.

Another thing - I think Mike just didn't want to deal with any more A-Rod calls so he decided to take this opportunity to pump his chest about "I said we had to get Polin on" and "I called Nance". Agree with you there JD

I'm with you Whatdoyohave?

The interview and the calls coming in are making for a decent show.

I also agree with you that we the listeners and Mike himself probably needed and deserved a break from the A-Rod story.

Hopefully the rest of the show will be good or I'll do my usual surf to another channel or find something else to do.

I think the lead story with Mike the past two days is that Nostalgia will always win over. He is a true romantic. So yesterday we heard him gush about the handsome and departed Brad van Pelt. And today he jumped at the chance to speak to former MLB player Bobby Tolan. Obviously this is a terrible story about Tolan's son getting shot. But I find it interesting that he immediately sides with a player from yesteryear(and HBO didn't hurt) when it comes to a horrible shooting. Yet when the news of Sean Taylor's death came across the wires, Mike's opinion was basically 'He had it coming.' It shows you how much Mike appreciates the players of yesteryear more than today's athletes. But in fairness, maybe we'll all be like that when we get to be his age.

Anyone hear Dog's bat story? I think that deserves a post.

KBilly, when I first saw your comment I hadn't heard it, and couldn't imagine what you were talking about. Then I heard the story. Amazing. He earned his $3 million for the year in that 15 minutes. Exhibit A for what makes his show far and away better than that excuse for a program offered by Francesa.

In the good old days, our trusty Mike and the Mad Blog hosts would transcribe the story for their readers. I hope they make that a priority with this.

Two-handed backhand... I kept the lights on cause bats are blind, 'blind as a bat', you hear that all the time...
