In one corner, we have Francesa. Expert on everything with extra special expertise in: Yankees, heart, Kennedy, "max protect schemes", Parcells, other Presidents, Diet Coke, horses and "big spots". Famous blowhard; recently split from radio partner of 19 years.
In the other corner, Michael Kay. Famous Yankee announcer; face of the YES Network; documented allegiance to the Yankee brass; excellent pitch man for upcoming ESPN/1050 programming. Famous blowhard also famous for the WORST end of show sign-off ever and expert in making my skin crawl when he lusts after women 25 years his junior.
Both huge Yankee guys. Both from NY. Neither guy has a grasp on baseball stats that are conjured up by bloggers living in their parents basement. Both fellows think Derek Jeter's sweat eliminates the suffering of children everywhere and that Randy Johnson was a bust in NY. Man, these guys sound like twin brothers, huh! In fact, they're very similar, to me. Except, Francesa's agenda is Francesa and friends of Francesa and Kay's agenda is the Yankees and ESPN.
I will say, Joey Salvia seems pretty funny. so that's good. It's immediately counteracted by that whining, unoriginal Donnie Pucks, so that's bad.
I cast my vote for Francesa. I just think he's better than Kay and he's not pushing anything on me that comes down from above.
What do you all think? Is the Kay show really better than Mike'd Up at this point?

So far I like Kay better. I give him the edge because they bash on each other a little bit. A little bit more humor on the Kay show. Mike is not funny. At all. Ever.
I recuse myself since I haven't listened to Kay for 5 years or so. But if I had a vote, I'd go with the dinosaur. The big, fat one.
gman26-
Give Kay a listen. Would be interesting to hear your opinion on him as you are a loyal commenter on here. Kay is ok, his two sidekicks sound like they enjoy their job.
I would have to go with the Michael Kay show. Because... Micahael Kayyy is on the radio todayy.
You didn't get into the jingles. Francessa's took about 7 months and is atrocious. It makes me want to stab my eardrums with knitting needles. Kay's is a bit less offensive.
They do tend to take a lot of the same points of view on the issues so there isn't much to go on there. Gman I don't know if you have itunes or whatever but I get the Kay podcast which is a good hour of his interviews and some of his back and forth with folks in the studio. Mike desperately needs a cohost.
Yaeh it comes down to the fact that anything is basically better than "Mike'd Up - Francesa on the Fan" - that name itself is horrendous. Mike solo is impossible to take. I can't take listening anymore, although I have tuned in these two days to hear his take on A-Rod. Kay's show is a bit kitchy at times but def more entertaining than Mike nowadays. I go with Kay
I will give the jingle edge to Kay but only because Mike's sounds like it should've been in "Iron Eagle". I have to go with Gman, though. I'd prefer to listen to Francesa. I have made my opinion known on Kay for a long time. I really think he's terrible. It's close, but for me, Francesa wins out. They're both better than Evan Roberts, though.
kay is terrible on YES. tolerable on ESPN. francesa is masochism.
I have been unable to listen to Francesa for the past month or two. But I was able to tune in last night for the last few minutes and I found myself instantly annoyed by him. BUT that said...to go a little "A Few Good Men" on you...
If I were Dawson and Downey and I had a choice between Francesa or Kay to listen to everyday while I rotted away in prison, I'd take Francesa any day of the week and twice on Sunday. You should have seen him thunder away at A-Rod's apology.
Seriously though, ESPN Radio just doesn't do it for me. For the most part, I find it heavily scripted and over produced. And while Francesa can be intolerable, he's not selling any agendas, which can't be said for ESPN Radio...
Kay is better.....hands down.
But i usually listen to just dog.

NY Times: Sirius XM Prepares Bankruptcy Filing
Shit. That is awful news. Damn.
Let's hope the programming stays on somehow. Can you imagine if Dog gets axed already?
:(
Why is Kay so bad? I've only been listening to him for a few days now, but he is no where near as arrogant as Francesa. A lot less infuriating as well...
loki, kay is only annoying when he goes way out of his way to bash the mets, which happens whenever the yanks arent making any headlines (be it positive or negative).
Brian - I live in North Carolina. I listen to both Mike and Chris via the internet(or satellite radio). Is Kay available over the internet? I actually doubt I would because I still remember him too much as a Yankee guy. Isn't he the one who sort of popularized the whole "Giambi is now a Yankee!"? Or was that Sterling.
What did Russo say about Fatcessa on Stern today??
all these people are calling in saying how much they like Mike. What's going on?
Neil Best is on it.

Best doesnt really say much. Mike is making it like Russo bashed him and lied about him
Russo on Howard Sten NOW Listen
Get on it boys!!! What is going on between the large one and the loud one? Keep hearing that the loud one did not say much bad but teh large one is kind of bashing him!! Let's get on this now!!!
What the hell is going on here? What did Chris say about Mike and vice versa????
Only reason to listen to Kay is for the weather/traffic girl. But since its radio, there's no reason.
Here she is:

Loki, Dog didn't trash Mike on Stern. He said it was an odd choice for Mike to do his SB show at a hotel instead of on Radio Row. He noted that he (Dog) had twice the guests including Mike's supposed best bud Parcells.
Howard was trying to push Dog to say that Mike was failing without him, but Dog didn't bite. He cited their 20 year relationship.
Dog did say that when they met at the SB, it was "a trickey spot" because they were competing for guests.
I'd try to listen to 1050 more but the signal is HORRIBLE 20 miles from Manhattan in Northern NJ where I live (at least when not out at school in MO). Never been a fan of Kay, thought his PBP job with the Yankees makes him worthless as a radio host - why bother listen if we know he's working for the Yankees too?
