Government 101

I just finished listening to Mike interview Yankee President Randy Levine and NY State Assemblyman Richard Brodsky(Don't fret Dog lovers. I already listened to Dog talk about how he liked the Eagles a lot. But his reasoning was based on 'karma' and 'momentum'. Not any actual matchup analysis. And people accuse him of not knowing anything about sports?). Well, after 40 minutes, my head is swimming.

Mike fancies himself an expert an all business dealings. So he acted like Mike Wallace and challenged both Levine and Brodsky on their arguments. But just like when he is talking sports, when in doubt, Mike talks over people. So when these two gentlemen got into the technical minutia about the Yankee Stadium deal that Mike can't possibly understand, Mike would try to talk to them as if he did. And when he got confused? Mike interrupted them to ask a new question. Either way, it was very confusing for everyone involved.

But it was fun, listening to both sides and escpecially listening to Mike navigate thru all that sounding like he knew EXACTLY what was being said on both sides.

Notice how Giddy he suddenly became. Proud that he thinks he followed all that, but also happy that he gets a break fom the now boring football chatter.

He got very giddy when Brodsky brought up Belmont. Mike then brought up his pet theory on the demonization of NYRA. Mike probably actually knows a lot about NYRA.

I bet that was great. He does consider himself to be the jack of all trades and there is no end to his expertise on any topic. Except baseball numbers. Those, he's not so keen on. Stadium financing? Expert. OPS+? Not so much. I am glad he's a popular financial analyst/public advocate with a wildly entertaining daily radio show and not a sports radio personality.

Missed all yesterday, but sounds like classic Mike trying to project himself as an expert in any and every field.

Today's opening is unbearable. Just a bunch of Mike trying to prove to the listener that no one else knows anything more than he does about the Jets head coach search, including the Daily News and their report about Rex Ryan being leading candidate.

He loves the fact that he has quasi-befriended Tannenbaum because now it is another "sauce" aka source like Omah that he can use to just say "Trust me, I know." Tough to listen to.

"I told you ten days ago there wouldn't be any announcement soon, and there hasn't been. So I was right." He repeated that or some version of that at least 3 times in a span of 5 minutes.

Do enough people listen to Dog that we can have a Marquis trivia answer thread?

Smarmy and smug. Perfect combo. Heard him for a few taking football calls and the like. Reid and McNabb, Warner, Ewing like comparisons. Gripping! I must say, however, that the call screener must be a relative or someone who has revealing photos of Mike with Ed Curry because he sucks. A lot. People are always getting through and asking the most inane questions.

kbilly - what is your idea for a trivia thread? Has he started the marquis today? I was just listening and he was fending off pro-Cardinal fans.

One of Mike's favorite new topics to be an "expert" on: the art of "throwing of the football"

Going on and on yesterday about McNabb v. Eli, now talking about Rivers

Usually I think this blog is too negative. However, on this one, I'll agree. Francesca did not do a good job with Brodsky. He clearly does not understand how the PILOTs take tons of money from the city and his defense of Bloomberg ("all politicians do that") was absurd.

gman- Mike just saying now that the "Mike and the Marquis" contest starts on Monday.

As for an answer thread, I have most of the questions and answers from last year saved on my computer since the GMen made it last year

Marquis is next week.
By a thread I mean a post dedicated to the answers to his trivial questions. I am usually good for two in a four Q set. That way maybe one of us can win SB tix...

Doggie now has a listener email segment.

This blog started with great promise and is now a miserable failure. When it started there were at least three posts per day. Now, it is about one a week. Don't get me wrong, when something is posted it is still pretty good, but the owners have gotten lazy and bored with the site.

You had a real chance to beat out mikefrancesa.com and at the start you were kicking their ass. However, you are now putting very little effort into this thing and it shows. Are you committed to this or not?

My two cents....

Dog only has one SB ticket?
That's weak considering Sirius is a radio partner with the NFL.
And they are both claiming the Marquis name.

In agreement with Gene. This site lucked out and got rolling right when the breakup was happening. Gave them some good momentum, but more importantly, a ton of material. Ever since its been in a steady decline. Now its rare to see anything new. Might as well just turn this thing into a message board.

PS: Where's that college kid who offered to write while the other guys were busy with work?

Come on guys....Even on the day of Mike and the Marquis we can't get a post? No post about how Mike is mocking contestants who do not know off the top of their head what the halftime score of Superbowl 3 was? Nothing about how Mike and Otis Anderson share a condescending laugh every time a caller gets a question wrong because they are so much smarter than the rest of us?

I guess this site is on life support.

Only QB drafted #1 overall who started a SB but didn't win: Drew Bledsoe

KBilly said...

Otis Anderson must have majored in English at Miami. Why didn't Mike just bring in Emmitt Smith to read these questions?

Damnt, I missed contest for second day in a row and now I'm listening to Mike the political commentator

Someone give KBilly the password to post new content.

Got through to Dawg today....Got past the first question and he mocked me because I made it obvious that I looked up the answer. Does he expect people to memorize the MVP, coaches, and quarterbacks that have ever played in every Superbowl?

Boys...It's not our blog. I wish they would post more often too but they're not obligatedto keep us entertained. Anyone else out there interested enough to post daily? If so, you will immediately have loyal readers and posters. If this blog is indeed kaput I want to thank the authors for starting it anyway.

Incidentally, has anyone won the trip yet? I wonder what it'll be like if anyone wins the private plane trip with Mike. Will Mike sit in the same area as the winner? Will he chat it up on the way down there? Will he be in a sectioned off area huddling up with some horse experts? I am dying to get the pulse of the scene! Will Mike tip back a brew with the winner and concede that private jet travel is pretty sweet or will he mention that the last one he was on was "bigger and more luxurious"? Man, I would love to win that trip and see how Mike conducted himself.

Even if I have to reread these posts over and over for eternity its FAR, FAR more entertaining than the gathering of internet toughguys at mikefransesca.com. If it wasn't for the espn boards, there wouldn't be a bigger bunch of boorish, rude, psuedo enligtened dickheads than some of those guys......hey wait. Isn't Mike still looking for a cohost?? He'd have the pick of the litter over there.
