Mike's Book Review

I am pretty sure Mike will spend a lot of time with football guests today but he opened with his review of the Verducci/Torre book. Personally, I think this is a great NY story and I am glad that's how he decided to open. Anyway, according to the Big Fella, the book is excellent. Specifically for NYY fans. He went through some key points:

- Cashman and Torre at odds on players
- Big stars; not clutch
- Torre wanting to keep Bernie; Cashman concerned with stats, not heartbeat of game
- Moose calling out Mo; surprisingly states the points are fair about blown saves in '01 and '04

So far, Mike thinks book is bad for Cashman but has not yet called out Torre. I wonder if he'll continue to ignore what a classless move this appears to be by the ex-manager. I am sure that Mike will wind up defending Torre throughout all this, especially after Torre completes his book tour and reveals his "side" to the discussion. Plus, Torre seems to not be about the "numbahs", like Mike and that kind of baseball thinking must be defended.

For my part, I think Mike would gain some credibility by acknowledging that Torre used poor judgment and deserves the criticism he's receiving. It's doubtful, though, and the legend of St. Joe will persevere.

***Excuse the real authors of this blog. This is a guest post.

This is a Re-Post!!!
Mike talked about the Torre/Verduci book in his opening, he read it last night & this morning. He did a great job. Give it to him, to his credit. Very comprehensive and complete, the best I've heard or read.

In response to your post. He would like answers to his questions first from Torre, who he is sure he will interview next week. Questions like, why reveal these "Clubhouse" issues now before he comments on them.

Who is the "special" guest Mike is having on today that he alluded to last night?

Gotta give it to the guy....he went home last night and read 477 pages. He didn't even make it seem like it was a big deal. I hate to have to give him credit, but that's a good job by him.

I guess he's not getting invited to too many parties down there in Tampa.

I wonder how many of us enjoy this Super Bowl stuff. I find it intolarable. I beleive it is nothing more than a little jaunt & fun time for the hosts.

this post hit it on the nose.
Torre is one of Mikey's pals, and you know what that means - never call them out for doing something dumb.
Aside... I wonder if Mike has run into the Doggie while down in Tampa?

Mike didn't read shit. He got the audio book and played it while he slept so he could osmosize the information.

I think Dog just said he would have Springsteen on tomorrow.

OK, so various members of the E-Street Band will be on Doggie's show tomorrow. Bruce is up in the air.

I know Mike wouldn't admit to have heard this but B & C played a clip this AM from Torre blasting Canseco for revealing clubhouse info. In fact, he even brought up "Ball Four" and seemed skeptical at the data in both while also condemning the authors. I wonder if Mike will just allow Joe to ramble some BS justification or ask him tough questions and reference his past opinions.

Glazer and Mike slobbered all over each other through a non-insightful interview while trying to one-up each other on insider connections. Good grief.

Mike will NEVER rag at Torre for this book.....

ANd NOT because he likes Torre but BECAUSE (bank on this)

Mike will, within the next 5 years write a tell all book about the M and MD show, all the dirty laundry.....you know...

Maddog insanely jealous

maddog dumb as a box of rocks

Mike was hit on by every female employee at the station, but he turned them all down

Parcells and torre used to call him on a regular basis for stratagy tips.

the chairs in the FAN studio were INCREDIBLY small, showing how cheap the station was.

ANd because they were so cheap, he was VASTLY underpaid even though he turned down more national posts than he could remember

It wasn't him who got the mike all greasy ever day, people just loved to make him the scapegoat.....envy, you know.

Unless there's a New York team in the Superbowl, there is no need for these guys to be down there previewing the game for an entire week. So boring. On a day when Joe Torre has written a book about his 12 years in New York, I do not need to hear who Jonathan Ogden thinks is gonna win the Superbowl.

And it's not even like there's another option. Kay, Francesa, and Russo are all down there. Maybe tomorrow I'll give NJ 101.5 a shot.
