RANDOM THOUGHTS

* After the short-anticipated open, we are left wanting more. But we should have known that Mike is a slippery fuck(credit Corrado Soprano) and can wiggle out of jams. He doesn't want to talk that much about CC so he doesn't. After one of the most important Yankee signings in recent history, Mike barely talked about CC. We heard words and names like Pettitte, collusion, Rick Peterson, Joba, Frank(Lawrence?), Marte, etc.

* Mike doesn't want to hear how it was Sabathia's 'lifelong dream' to be a Yankee.
He had steered the conversation to these people(I don't know who they are minus a handful of sportswriters) who thought there was collusion. So he went from demonizing a reluctant lefty to a these imaginary collusion conspiracy theorists.
Then he moved onto Andy Pettitte. Now Pettitte isn't front page, second page or even back page news today.

* Mike is apparently trying out for the Carnival by claiming to know the real weight of CC. "Take it from me, he's not 250. If he's a dollar, he's 300." This line was the price of admission today. One big man sizing up another big man. It was like Sy Sperling from Hair Club for Men saying, 'I'm not just the Hair Club president -- I'm also a customer!'

*biggiesmalls gets the door prize today with the reminder that this was supposed to be Legends week. Does Rick Peterson qualify as a legend?

Mike just said that Wang has won more games than Sabathia in recent years.

In the last 3 years...

Wins
Sabathia 48
Wang 47

I agree that I also don't want to hear any "lifelong dream" stuff from him, ala Nick Swisher...that would just be acting like a fraud.

About the so-called "Legends Week," Mike did say that he had hosts booked for Thursday and Friday supposedly, but the rest of the week wasn't worked out at the time. Maybe Mike, in classic fashion, never got around to it, so maybe it will just be "2 Legends 2 (Partial) Days."

I also hate how he continues to bring the economy into the mix. It has NOTHING to do with Sabathia's or the Yankees actions. What is the point Mike? Stop trying to hide from your mega-rant yesterday.

One more thing (and then I'm done, I swear)...MLB.com has Sabathia listed as 6'7", 290, NOT 250! What an idiot...Where is he getting his facts?

Legends Week = LT and the Straw in the studio for probably 6 combined hours. Great job Mike, Great job.

Thankfully I will be swamped with finals, so there is no chance of me catching parts of his show.

I actually thought Mike made a good point about the economy in his opening. I agree with his take that MLB attendance will suffer. It may not affect the NYY but it may very well affect other MLB teams. We'll see.

His (kinda) solid opening was quickly ruined when he dubbed CC and Wang as co-aces. I must disagree here.

Yeah but I don't think the bad economy affected the lack of trades/signings during the meetings. Mike keeps bringing that up, but in reality he is just using the economy as a scapegoat for his inability to comment on anything baseball.

Loki - He can comment on anything, especially baseball. Insight or stats, not so much. I would be embarrassed to compare pitchers usings wins as a metric. There he is, day after day, doing just that. Horrible analysis.

Why does Sweeny Murti take criticism of the Yankees so personal. From his WFAN blog.

"So now it’s time for everybody to start poking holes in CC Sabathia. Just stop. This guy has been one of the best pitchers in baseball."

Like Yankee fans weren't going on and on about Santana's final 5 starts w/ the Twins.

anon - All WFAN Yankee correspondents have been Yankee apologists. Remember when Suzyn Waldman was doing it? Any bad word about a Yankee and she went into attack mode. I guess Ed Coleman more or less looks like a journalist compared to those two.

I wish I could catch parts of this show, I did not realize Mike was such an idiot. I don't think Wang and Sabathia are co-aces at all. Any talk Sabathia has a "lifelong dream" to be a Yankee is bull. I always thought playing on the west coast was his dream...or at least that is what I heard.

gman26, Sweeny is actually a lifelong Phillies fan. I do agree that he does often come off as a Yankee apologist, but I'm not sure if that's because he's grown emotionally attached because he covers the team or if it is just to argue for the sake of sparking a debate.
