ENTHUSIASM

A man becomes preeminent, he's expected to have enthusiasms. Enthusiasms... What are mine? What draws my admiration? What is that which gives me joy? Baseball! A man stands alone at the plate. This is the time for what? For individual achievement. There he stands alone. But in the field, what? Part of a team. Teamwork.

'We're going to start our kinda legends thing we're gonna do here.'
This is how Mike introduced his Legends segment with Darryl Strawberry today. Man does he know how to sell this thing. 'Kinda'? Could ya please bring a little more enthusiasm about this new element to your show? It sounds like he is more interested in individual achievement and not so much on the teamwork thing. Let's just keep a baseball bat out of his hands.

(BTW - Why is Mike still talking about Pettitte? No one cares where he is going. I loved how he said, "Pettitte will pitch hurt." Sure he will, Mike. Then after he's hurt he has to go get the HGH to get better.)

Mike should've just said, "Pettite will pitch badly/sub-par/less than average." That's much more descriptive than "...pitch hurt." Actually, I am surprised he didn't state that Pettite, Wang and CC would be co-aces. I know he thinks it.

On YES they showed an old tape when Frank Caliendo was on the show and as soon as I heard Dog's voice it brought me to a happy place.
This Legends show is gonna be a disaster. Mike cant even stay out of Darryl's way...answerin questions for him..interupting...criticizing the caller's question before Darryl can answer...unbelievable

i wonder how much Darryl got paid to do the show.

You are correct about the awkward opening. I really enjoyed the show, though. But if I were a caller, and before the 3 PM update I'm told they'd open the phones after Mink, and they waited as long as they did, I'd be pissed. Mike actually said at 3:05, "One question, Daryl and then your calls. Mike asked 45 questions and opened the phones at 3:45. WTF?

Excellent "Untouchables" quote. The look on DeNiro's face when he looks around the room after beating the guy to death is second only to the look Mike Francesa gave Jim at the end of this clip:

pieman - I was wondering when someone was going to reference the quote.

bud - I was just talking about the open. I turned off at 1:30. Listened to some Dog. Jim Duquette is a great guest with Dog.

I do my share of ripping into the big man but this show was the best he's had solo. The Straw is the man and i'm glad I listened.

"Who cares where he is going?"

Obviously, you Mets fans don't. As a Yankee fan, I certainly care about what my rotation is going to look like. I understand it is probably going to be Yankees or retirement for Pettitte, but my point is it matters to me.

As for the point about the kinda legends thing, I agree. Show a little passion, will ya Mikey? You have Darryl Freaking Strawberry in the house! I enjoyed it, but it seems like I enjoyed it more than Mike. Also, when the callers were mentioning points of Darryl's career, Mike was clueless on each one of them. Including that walk-off homer and being involved in the fight with Armando Benitez. But the worst part is Mike argues with the caller that it didn't happen or that the caller's facts are wrong, and then Mike is instantly proven wrong and he just moves on. Embarrassing to see that happen in front of the Straw Man.

And besides, if Andy returns and all of Mike's wishes come true, he can continue to bitch and moan about why a prospective future ace who maintains electric stuff over 6+ innings at a time should be a setup man in an already strong bullpen.
