Legends of the Fall

Yesterday marked the completion of the Mike'd Up Legends Shows...or better yet, what I like to call the "I have run out of ideas for how to fill 5 1/2 hours a day, I have no co-hosts, am not close to having any revolving guests, still have no new jingle and I just need to distract the masses from all of this" experiment. But the question to you is - what did you think of the Legends shows? Were they Legendary? I caught most of the Strawberry and LT shows, but was unable to catch much of Phil Simms and Mark Bavaro. I found the Strawberry show irritating because Mike constantly interrupted Darryl and would never let him finish a thought. On the other hand, I actually very much enjoyed the LT show. Even though Mike did cut LT off several times, it usually came at moments when LT was slightly incoherent - so I was fine with that. The day LT was on, I was in my car and I decided to switch back and forth between ESPN Radio and Mike'd Up. ESPN Radio was talking local baseball. I am a big baseball guy and would much rather hear baseball talk than reminisce about the old Giants Super Bowls yet again..but ESPN Radio just wasn't cutting it for me. Michael Kay is not Mike Francesa. Say what you want about the arrogance of the big man and we do that here quite a bit, but he still blows away the competition in my mind. Now, if Chris Russo was on ESPN Radio, that's a whole other scenario. But anyway, the point is the Legends Show of LT was a success to me. Strawberry...not so much. I'll leave it to you to inform me about the others. But the bigger issue here is that once again, Mike promised something that he did not follow through on. He promised 2 weeks of Legends Shows. Instead, he had 3 1/2 days of them. This new era of Mike Francesa is becoming the era of broken promises. The Legends are just the latest to Fall.

Yeah, I am convinced that the show has not changed and/or improved because there is no reason for the extra work. ESPN Radio has failed to be a legit contender. Their shows/personalities are just plain awful. How else could Evan and Joe still be on the air? If there was even a little competition, they'd be long gone. Same goes for Francesa. At the very least, he'd have to shake some things up. The incompetence of ESPN Radio has made/saved the Fan.

I thought the Legends shows were a throw away idea anyway. I caught some of them but I thought it was just a way to kill air time as you mentioned. Can't believe he didn't have Scott Brosius. You know if he wasn't under indictment, Leyritz would've been there.

So where is mike now? Gone forever?
I wouldnt mind. He's just so arrigant. I think the best personalty they have is Steve Somers, needing to pair him up a relaxed straight man (not coleman). How about this... "Seinfeld and Somers". They afforded Imis for years. Why not?

Mike repeated his erroneous belief again today that Jake Delhomme has had a bad year. This despite the fact, that, at 7.6 yds/attempt, the most important throwing stat, he ranks 8th of 32 qbs. Behind ony Rivers, Romo, Ryan, Schaub, Brees, Pennington, and Warner. Ahead of Cutler, and easily ahead of Mr. MVP, Peyton Manning, as well as Eli and Favre.

Mike saw those terrible stats for Delhomme for one or two games and decided with finality that he's been having a bad year. And he's probably only seen Carolina play about seven quarters this year.

Then, he goes 99% by TD - INT ratio. Delhomme's is only 14-12. But wait a minute, doesn't Delhomme get any credit for the fact that Carolina leads the league is rushing TDs? Is Delhomme really having a bad year because Carolina has decided to run the ball from the 1, rather than throwing it, which would pad Delhomme's TD tosses stat? And is 12 INTs in 14 games really so terrible? It's slightly high, but really where most everyone else is. Mike, you're an insecure idiot. I hate you.

You make a good point about Francesa's questions. They ramble now and sound like Steve Sommers. (Remember Steve's classic when Daryl was in LA? He asked a question SO long the Straw had hung up before he fininshed. Mike and Chris played the tape all day.) You missed nothing with Bravaro. He is just too quiet. And Mike had to do the CC & AJ interviews along with Mike Holgrem...

Bavaro is the best. You missed a lot. Humble, kind, thoughtful, and above all, real.

An example of what a bum Francesa is, and how he has to know everything, is that, before Bavaro could even get to recollections about Jerry Faust, Francesa had to say that he had met him twice, and he seemed like a rambling, scatter-brained kind of guy. But we never got to hear what Bavaro thougt, who spent four or five years with him.

The highlight of the show, by the way, was Bavaro sticking up for Jennifer Aniston's looks. He allowed that she might just be cute, not hot, but he described her as "smoking cute." Everyone paused and then burst out laughing when he said that. It was so funny coming from Bavaro.

I have not listened to Mike for 3 months now but from what I hear the show till blows.

And I don't understand why so many people bash espn radio. I've always enjoyed Kay's show. It seems like most people just hate him because they relate him to the yanks.

Anyway Dog's show has been pretty good. Very funny actually. Hopefully more people sign up online to listen.

Rock - I think Kay's show is bad. Really bad. You might be right about the NYY angle but I still think his takes are poor. I think Mad Max is good though. Even though he's an insufferable homer, he is intelligent and articulate. Plus, he talks boxing. Kay and Crew do nothing for me, however.
