Mike, the Mets, Joba, Chicken Little and the Mets

We're going to (maybe) be spared from overreactions from all NY baseball fans today. NYY fans playing the role of Chicken Little and NYM fans playing the role of whatever too happy is, too early in the season. Since Mike is coming on after the NYM, it gives the NYY's a chance to win this afternoon and quiet the brewing storm. Same goes for the NYM fans. If the Mets don't complete the sweep, DMurph may not be HOF caliber and the NYM might be concerned with their shoddy avg with RISP. Either way, plenty to talk about, including Mike maybe re-opening negotiations with Arroyo if he can silence the NYM offense.

Now, onto Joba: I don't know much about this story except some blurbs I've read on the internets. To me, this is much ado about nothing. NY fans care that he "dissed" our driving? That he called Yogi short? This is arrogant and disrespectful? Please. On the way home last night I had to listen to more than one caller to Mike'D Up talk about Joba's "privilege", his lack of respect for the game and how he's another athlete that is too rich, too young. Bullsh*t! I hate when people pull this card. He owes nothing to anyone but himself and his family. He got to where he is on his own steam and merits. I assume he worked hard to get there. His hard work turned into a MLB baseball career. There, his services are valuable and he's paid accordingly. He's paid his market worth.

As far as the DUI goes, well, he's lucky that's all it was. No one was injured and he'll hopefully learn a lesson. My only question: Who the heck drinks Crown Royal?

I fully support your position on the Joba issue. Enough already, why does he "owe" NY fans anything? We didn't get him to the Majors.

i agree for the most part. however, something that didnt bother me before but bothers me a tiny tiny bit now is how much i hate non-new yorkers and how they COME to new york, earn a living here, get the star treatment, and then have the nerve to criticise our city.

there are way too many rednecks from cleveland, des moines, bumblefuck usa that come to new york and talk shit while reeping all the benefits.

not that he didnt have a point about new yorkers being rude behind the wheel. if a new yorker said it, its one thing. but when a non new yorker says it, its a little annoying.

Hey I know this is off topic, I was on the Star Ledger's website and I came across a great article about how Mad Dog got a great interview today with John Mara if you guy's didn't hear. I just posted it on my blog. Mad Dog got John Mara to finally discuss his feeling about cutting Plax and I figured you guys would want some of this info, it looks like Russo been getting some great guests lately.

Good call on the last paragraph on this post minutes before the Adenhart story was broken.

i got a topic for y'all to discuss. when did new yorkers become such babies that it seems like everyones got some quip on the new stadiums? for YEARS people were clamoring for a new park... they give it to us and people cant stop complaining about obstructed view, etc.

complain, complain, complain. thats all ive been hearing about the stadiums.

Good one Jason! Even worse is the complaints about the prices of tickets. Any team is going to charge what they believe people will pay. Ticket prices too high? Don't go and the tickets will go down. Heard someone complaining that the Ranger playoff tickets went from $85 to $95 this year. He was outraged. So outraged that he bought the tickets. Rangers - 1 nameless fan - 0

I agree with the whole idea with the market will determine itself. Remember when CBS first signed the billion dollar NCAA deal? Everyone screamed when they went to commercial break at every dead ball. Just how do you think they're going to pay back that billion dollars? Inane talk about an inbounds play? Now, people are used to the incessant timeouts and last time I checked, they're still watching.

Hey, Crown Royal's a good call!

Seriously though, I couldn't care less about that video, and I refuse to watch it. Joba has plenty of problems to deal with in his own personal life. I don't expect him to worship New Yorkers and Yogi. Besides, Yogi knows he's short, so what's the big deal?

What was it he said about New Yorkers? That we're inconsiderate and don't hold doors or something like that? Well, isn't that true for the most part? I mean, I don't know if people in Kansas are deliriously friendly, but walk around the city and the overwhelming majority of people are going to keep to themselves, ignore you, and be discourteous. If a star on the Yankees can recognize that, I think we commonfolk can acknowledge that he's not wrong. We can be the most passionate people in the world. Events like 9/11 showed that we can be considerate of others. But there's a reason why New Yorkers are always portrayed as unfriendly. Probably the only worse place is Philly.

Who cares what some corn-fed country boy that can throw a baseball 92 mph thinks of New Yorkers? Does anyone really care? Plus, did he say anything that was wrong? :-)
