FRANCESER ON THE FAN

It's a busy Monday for Mike'd Up Francesa on the Fan. Not living in the NY Metropolitan area, I don't have the luxury of watching Mike's dress rehearsal on Sunday night on NBC. Is it still on? But since we all like to predict things, let's setup Mike's show today.

Chances that Mike...
*Opens the show with a call to end restrictor-plate racing. "Roe was very upset after watching Carl Edwards' car hurtle into the fence at Talladega." - 0%
*Flip-flops again and says that he now likes the Bulls to beat the Celtics - 20%
*Calls Andy Pettitte 'Andy' - 77%
*Brushes off the Red Sox sweep of the Yankees by talking about how the Red Sox are historically good in April - 100%
*Downplays Ellsbury's steal of home with 'Everyone's making this out to be Jackie Robinson. Enough already.' - 60%
*Calls Mr. T brilliant for getting Mark Sanchez, then talks about how Sanchez will have a hard time filling the shoes of Joe Namath - 20%
*Doesn't mention Mike Tannenbaum by name, just calls him Mr. T as if the rest of the listening public should know the nickname - 95%
*Criticizes the Mets for only winning two of three from the Nats - 100%
*Brings up a topic in the first segment that no one else is thinking about except him(for example, something that Mel Kiper said during two days of draft coverage, the 7th race at Aqueduct, Hedo Turkoglu's 'excessive' celebration for hitting a game-winning shot in a playoff series, etc.) - 30%
*Changing Met scapegoat status from David Wright to Ollie Perez - 86%
*Is lukewarm about the Giants draft - 50%
*In talking about the Giants draft, brings up Ernie Accorsi or George Young but doesn't mention current GM Jerry Reese - 10%
*Ridicules Al Davis - 100%
*Previews tomorrow's Barcelona-Chelsea Champions League game with Tommy Smyth - 1%
*Criticizes all the hype and coverage surrounding the draft and then continues to breakdown each team and how they fulfilled their needs - 40%
*Mentions the New York Rangers' playoff series - 2%

Any other prognostications?

Mike really got on the Yankees last night. Even went as far as to say they were in worse shape than the Mets. He had "Mr. T" on the phone as well. Pretty boring and useless if you ask me...

He also bashed Ollie for just plain sucking, Murphy for playing the outfield "on roller skates", and finally really hit Wright hard with all his strikeouts saying he is "clueless" at the plate.

And there is 0% chance he will take it easy on the Yankees. Just watch..he will destroy them.

He'll say he wants Joba in the bullpen at some point today.

Hate to say it, but I am almost starting to agree with him.

Man he is ripping the Yankees big time today. He's right though, Yankees have to be feeling the sting of Boston's farm system right now.

DEFINITELY RIGHT ABOUT THE YANKEES. THEY ARE FUCKIN UP AND BOSTON JUST TOOK THE OLD YANKEE BLUEPRINT AND RAN WITH IT.

JOBA DOESNT LOOK INTIMIDATING AT ALL ANYMORE. WHAT A DUMB MISTAKE STARTING HIM.

This is weird because Mike likes to chide Yankee fans when they overreact. And of course, Mike will regale everyone with stories about how the Yankees have started slowly, only to make the playoffs comfortably. But now he is actually being an enabler with suicidal Yankee fans.

And he sort of thinks that Ellsbury 'showed Andy up for stealing home.' How dare he! When it comes to Franceser, you don't mess with Andy, Bernie or the Mick.

Gman...the showing up "andy" thing was absurd. what is the guy supposed to do - go in the dugout and sulk? Or not acknowledge the fans cheering him? Also, watch out for Toronto to replace Tampa as this year's Talk To Me in August team...

Re: "Mr. T": I guess it was Friday, I'm listening and hear him say Mr. T, and I'm thinking "what if someone was just flipping through the dial and came across someone mention "Mr. T? Would they think of B.A. Baracus from the A-Team?"

Lucky777 said...

And there we have the Sanchez/Namath comparison...I don't know how you do it Gman!!!

gman26 said...

I got Namath. But I spit the bit with the Yankees/Red Sox call. although I don't have the benefit of watching Mike'd up on Sunday. I shouldn't have made it 100%. And I had the Ellsbury thing at 60%. He went a different direction than I thought he would.

And he totally ruined my Accorsi/Reese thing by having Reese on. It would have been tough to have George Young on.

Stay tuned for Al Davis. We won't hold our breath on the hockey. But I still think he will get to the Bulls/Celtics thing. he might not get to the Mets at all.

btw, Doggie was big on the Draft today, keeping up his theme that no one knows what they are talking about when it comes to the draft.

KBilly said...

Doggie screwed me. I know my Ramses Baeden shit and he hangs up on me an says I don't know what I'm talking about. Ramses Barden vs Winconsin 8 catches 85 tards and 1 TD. And he tells me I didn't watch the game...Jesus. I want to [explitive deleted]

Anyone hear it? I wanted to hit him after everyone else contradicted him.

gman26 said...

Didn't hear it KBilly but Francesa was on with Reese today gushing about Barden's performance against Wisconsin. Francesa has a new bromance for Javier Barden.

All I heard of Doggie today was him talking hockey. Which is like hearing Costas do the Kentucky Derby. The enthusiasm is there but they don't know what the hell they are saying.

i think it's so funny that a week ago he was so adamant about having to 'fix' the new stadium. those are some tapes that need to be played come september.

today's show just shows how personally he takes what the yankees do and he thinks that by getting pissed off enough he can influence something. with the mets he just enjoys rubbing in their mistakes & making fun of the franschise in general

Ryan T. said...

KBilly... just heard your call. It was Steve Torre who questioned how you could have seen a Cal-Poly game.

Dog even admitted he shouldn't have hung up on you so quickly. He wanted to follow up.

After they checked the stats they said "We owe KD an apology"

By the way, nice job getting yet another "ANYBODY ALIVE..."

Christ I cant take any more of this 'Hair' commercial. To show how amazing this play is, they play 3 song selections, two of them are Aquarius/Let the Sunshine in with some girl singing like a first round American Idol reject going on vocal runs the entire song.

*sigh* its still better than Kars4Kids

funny, fatso reads the yankee press release for discounted tickets like he was just breaking a news story about the country going to war or something.

BiggieSmalls said...

so what did the Fat Man have to say about the ticket prices being cut in half?

I remember he said if something like that happened they would have to refund the $$ to all who paid the higher price.. or did he just forget about making that statement?

gman26 said...

Put this one in the bank. Tomorrow, Mike will start the legend of Philip Hughes. He more or less said this was Hughes' last shot tonight. Now that he delivered, has Hughes 'become a Yankee'? All Met fans love that expression.

Whatdoyouhave? said...

Biggie- the way they did it in fact did take care of the "premium clients" - if you already had season tickets or some type of plan, they gave you more tickets for free. It was an interesting way of doing it by the Yankees, but prob made the most business sense I guess.

And to agree with devoted caller and Yankee fan Lisa from Whitestone / Lower East Side, there are lots of tix left on yankees.com for even the Red Sox games.

BiggieSmalls said...

yeah I saw that in the paper today.

IF this was the Mets it would be a week long story with Ken Oberman doing hourly updates.

Bet we dont hear anything more from the blow hard.

Im so glad Im weening myself off that show.

Whatdoyouhave? said...

I know not many of you listen to Joe and Evan but when they were deriding Rangers GM Glen Sather for being only NY-area GM never to do interviews, Joe B mentioned Tannenbaum and made an underhanded joke at Mike calling him Mr T, which of course made me happy

Whatdoyouhave? said...

So annoying they don't broadcast the Mets game over wfan.com - they play replays of Boomer and Carton. This is horrendous. Carton sucks

I am listening to the game on XM. I have to second the opinion of a commenter awhile back - Wayne Hagin is so low rent. I never liked Tom McCarthy but I'd rather have him than Hagin. Still the best times on the radio were Gary Cohen and Howie. I did listen to Bob Murphy in the early days(late 80's early 90's) but the last years were just too painful.

GMan...Hagin is the worst. I'd rather listen to Sterling/Waldman. I thought McCarthy was OK and much better than Hagin, obviously.

I thought Fran Healey was pretty tough to deal with too.
