Anyone listening to Mike'd Up today knows that Francesa will talk about anything rather than get into the World Baseball Classic. He has made his point that he thinks it is an exhibition, which for the most part, I totally agree with. But here's the thing - even if you view it as an exhibition, you can't deny that last night a great game was played between the Netherlands and the Dominican Republic. But Mike will have none of that. He'll bore you with the details of the Jay Cutler QB controversy in Denver (hey Mike, this is a NEW YORK sports talk station), he'll give us play by play of the Depaul game (Hey Mike, we have tv's also), he'll tell you about the Butler game last night (Hey Mike, no one gives a shit), he'll tell you about the Knicks magic number of reaching 33 wins (Hey Mike, what happens then???), he'll tell you about how he kept an eye on the Cavs game last night cause they were down 14 at the half (Hey Mike, I think the Cavs will be okay) - but what he won't tell you about are his thoughts on the dramatic game last night between those kids from the red light district versus the boys from the Dominican...

The WBC has also prompted more of the 'anger' theme that MIke has been displaying towards callers these days. I turned on for a bit and heard him say to a caller,"Why do I care that you care!" The guy was thrown off and really didn't have much to say back. But I think we get the picture that Mike hates everyone in the world.
He is increasingly, his opinion is fact, including what topics we would care about, and I am finding that the most irritating aspect of his show nowadays. That alone makes me tune out.
Gman....I heard the same call. The thing is that once Mike dismisses something in his mind, it is over. My thing is even if you think it's an exhibition, you can still appreciate a good exciting game like the one that was played last night. It doesn't have to mean that the tournament is something to take seriously. It doesn't mean that people should now give a shit about the Netherlands. It just means that a great game is a great game. But Mike can't put himself out there like that because in his mind that would somehow be an admission that would go against everything he stands for..
Even he somehow saw the game. no way he would admit that it was even a good game. Actually, no way he would even admit to seeing it. I believe that a true fan of sports would get into that game, You gotta ask, what does that say about him
and get home by 1:00?? When you get out of work at about 11pm. Come on, you gotta be kidding!
Get your Votes in. Apparently the floodgates are open and everyone who calls into to Mike, needs to offer their opinion of Max as his new host.
If you read between the lines, Mike is not discouraging talk about Max. After someone suggested Kim Jones, he said, "She already has a job."
According to the comments on Watchdog the BS Report mentioned that Max and Mike recently had lunch. Another chance for BS to slap his employer, passive aggressively, if Max does indeed join the Fan.
Anyway, I think Mad Max would be deferential to Mike while also understanding that this is THE platform for NY radio. Bottom line: I think Max would conform to the format of the show.
Mike has been killing me with his opinions on the WBC. You can think whatever you may of it. I do agree in some aspects that the world's best players don't play on all the teams,so it shouldn't be valued so much in some aspects. It's getting rediculous that Francesa can tell us what he thinks that we should care about. I'll tell you one thing that had me fuming in the car. He's telling me I don't care that the Netherlands upset the DR, but I do care about Cleveland State and North Dakota State getting into the NCAA tournament and you should too. I'M THINKING WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT CLEVELAND STATE. THEIR GOING TO GET BOUNCED IN THE FIRST OR SECOND ROUND ANYWAY. Let's give them a medal for getting into the tourny as a middle level conference and then they'll get trounced. Thanks for that little tid bit. I think a team with 2 washed up major leaguers (Randal Simon, Sidney Ponson) beating an all-star loaded Dominican Republic team with 23 MLB all stars is more important. The DR is embarassed by this because their country actually cares a lot about this and they've been waiting for this tournament since 2006. It was one of entertaining and interesting baseball games I've ever seen as a big baseball fan.
- Also wanted to note this is an awesome blog and I saw a link to it on awfulannouncing, which one of my radio hosts showed me weeks ago. Keep up the good work, I really enjoy the stuff you guys do, I've been listening to the WFAN since I was little kid.
Max is almost as arrogant and awful as Fatso. I will never listen to that show. Those 2 ego's will never fit in the same studio. The thought of those 2 together makes me want to vomit. I rarely listen to WFAN anymore and looks like it's going to stay that way.
