Nothing Good Happens After Midnight...

Mike just got into the Bernie Williams story, where a woman is accusing him of hitting her in the face and breaking her camera at a club in Puerto Rico at 2:30am. Mike can't possibly fathom that Bernie would have done this - nor can I for that matter. BUT, last week Mike went on a whole diatribe about Duaner Sanchez's cab injury a few years back when he was out at 2 in the morning. As Mike said the other day "nothing good happens after midnight." Mike was adamant about the fact that Sanchez had no business being out that late when he was with his team. Now I am assuming Bernie was with the Puerto Rican WBC team at the time of this incident, so why haven't we at least heard those same words from Mike about nothing good happening after midnight? Interesting how Mike sees similar things in completely different ways..

Mike reacted that way for two simple reasons...

1. Diet Coke is the only thing more beloved by Mike than Bernie Williams.

2. To Mike the WBC is not really a "game" per say, but just a meeting where baseball players from across the globe can slap each others asses.

Personally I believe there is no chance in hell these accusations against Bernie are true. Just imaging Bernie clubbing at 2am is hard enough to believe..

I would be shocked if these accusations were true as well. I assume this was 2am local time in that club. The difference here is Bernie was there for a music gig. He was there to work, at least that's how I understand it. So with that being the case, his hanging around afterward was related to the gig. Duaner Sanchez went out to get some "food." Granted, Sanchez was responsible enough to get a cab and he just ran into bad luck with the cab getting into an accident. That's not like Tony LaRussa getting a DUI.

Does Mike seriously think that once a big star goes down with a major injury in the WBC, the ENTIRE tournament will be scrapped? Is he NUTS?!!!

Isn't funny how such a meaningless, money-driven tournament gets SO MUCH airtime on Francesa's show??

Mike also seems to know every latino player and their feelings on playing for their own country. One caller said that many Latino players have enormous amounts of pride playing for their country and would even go so far as to say that they care more about the WBC then winning the world series. While I do not agree with that last part, Mike immediately said the guy was wrong and that players (no matter what nationality) do not care about the tournament, and that you only have a few RARE players who do care.

And then I switched to Kay who was talking about relevant news such as Joba and the starter/reliever debacle.

OK so who's gonna call in to talk about David Wright's clutch walk off hit. I can hear Mike's response now: "Don't talk to me about the World Baseball Classic. Nobody cares about that. Let's see him do it in September."

^You could always reply with "Lets see Arod do it in October" but we all know that's a handwavin'

dont forget that it was because of jeter's superb defense *obvious sarcasm* that lead to puerto rico's insurance run.

guess that wont matter to francessa either.

what a great finish tho.
