David's Dilemma

It appears the loyal commenters beat me to the punch here but here goes anyway. Please note, I did NOT watch this "exhibition" game as I had some "Lost" to watch. Plus, a well known, knowlegable, NY sports personality told me it meant "Nothin."

Anyway, David done did it now. Mr. Non-Clutch clutched in a game winning hit in what amounts to a scrimmage. Did it against his teammates too. I just get the feeling that in the eyes of the Big Fella David would've been better off rejecting the offer to play for the USA and let Craig Biggio get that game winning knock. As it is, he "came up big" in a non "big spot". In a game that meant nothing. Against a pitcher lesser than Brad Lidge. I imagine this will be Mike's take.

Now, from all reports the game winning hit was only overshadowed by the apparent brutal defensive display by Captain America. Can anyone elaborate? Is it possible that the shoddy NYY defense will be even worse than anticipated?

jeter actually had two defensive flubs that lead to PR going up 4-3. he couldnt get to a slowly hit ball to his left, which scored a man from second.

then later in the game, jeter got his glove on the ball that was also pretty slowly hit and it dribbled into center field, scoring the insurance run (5-3).

why jeter was out there playing ss is beyond me. rollins should be out there full time. he wouldve made both plays pretty easily.

Jeter's play was a tough play, definitely not a routine ground ball, but it was a ball that the shortstop representing the United States should be able to make.

Of course you won't hear about any of that from Francesa. You might hear about how two batters before Wright, Jeter had men on 1st and 2nd no outs and had a well hit ball that happened to be right at the right fielder. Mike will say "Even when Jeter does make an out in a big spot he still hits the ball hard."

It's gonna be great to see how FATSO downplays this one!!!

Maybe he'll take another sick day to avoid it?

look for mike to completely blow past the game and just start the show with NCAA tournament talk. He will tell us about what boring coach he will have on today, recap the play-in game, quickly say he doesn't care about the WBC and then move on to an ALL NCAA tournament show....

I'm thinking at least a little time devoted to how good C.C. and Mo looked last night...

silly question, although the topic has come up here: anyone know why Mike now takes the labels off his Diet Coke bottles?

you gotta hand it to Mike's avoidance techniques...starts the show with who will get the Arizona basketball coaching job: "that will be a very fascinating thing to watch" He even delved into the NIT...forget about WBC talk

Well, he just gave it a one-line, 30 second, "I didn't see it, Wright yadda yadda yadda, that's it"

It is contentious out there today. The callers are calling in and challenging the big man today. On the WBC and Brodeur, etc. Callers beware. Mike is dug in pretty well. It's going to be pretty tough to win any points against him.

Gman...I loved his take on Brodeur that essentially because the midday show couldnt get Marty on all week then Mike didn't have to acknowledge Brodeur's historic feat...classic Francesa.

These people who call up and tell Mike "I value your opinion so much...." and basically take his picks in the bracket as gospel are such losers

And no matter what happens in this WBC, no matter what points people bring up, Mike will never give an inch from his original statement

I'd say more than half the people that call in either kiss Mike's ass, or he gets arrogant with.
I'd say about 20% of the calls turn out to be "normal" calls (no ass-kissing, no arrogant Mike).

"4 o'clock stupid pills." After two confrontational/silly calls, Mike declared that people have apparently been ingesting "Four O'Clock Stupid Pills."

He is Hell bent on talking about the "brackets" or as he called them about 20 times in 2 minutes the other day, "ladders" even if we all tune out, rather than acknowledge the WBC game last night and the Jeter/Wright stories. Hey Francessa.......We don't care. He is unlistenable & unlikeable!!!

Is Mike the only one on the Earth that says "tre" instead of "three"? What a pompous windbag.
