Martin Luther King Jr. once uttered the words "I have a dream." Well, we here at Mike and the Mad Blog also once had a dream. Unlike Dr. King however, our dream was a bit easier to ascertain - to create a community where fans of the Mike and the Mad Dog radio show could turn to for clever and interesting commentary on the personalities that are Mike Francesa and
Christopher Russo.
Initially, we would like to say that we succeeded in doing so. One commenter at a time, we slowly built up this blog and even garnered some legitimate recognition across the web-o-sphere. We received a plug for the blog on air with Chris Russo. We got an exclusive interview with Neil Best when rumors of the break-up dominated talk. We had Mike and Chris breakdown Wilt's 100 point point game and last year's American Idol Finale. We had the Babe Ruth of body language experts analyze one of Mike and Chris' heated arguments over the bathrooms at the old Yankee Stadium. We turned to our good friend Colonel Nathan Jessep from time to time to make sense of the Mike and the Mad Dog landscape. There was the infamous and the Bucket List. We persevered through the end of the Mike and the Mad Dog era. We suffered with everyone through the start-up of the Mike'd Up era. We're still not sure what the new bells and whistles are, or whom the talent is. We tried our best to follow Doggie on a National level. As boring and bitter as Mike Francesa has been post break-up, Dog has been every bit as irrelevant, often trying too hard to cover too many events.
We invited a few new commenters to contribute as life got in the way for us. In short, it's been a memorable and interesting journey. But all good things must come to an end. For us, the writing has been on the wall for the past few months. This blog has become something less than what we once created. And because of that, we feel it is time to shut down. Kbilly and
Awesome Sean, thanks for writing fresh material but it's time to take back the keys to the car. And since we are still tied up with life, we are going to be shutting down the site for good.
We would like to thank everyone who has visited this blog and has enjoyed the insight we have provided. Consider this a farewell post. We'll leave the comments section open for the day and then we will be shutting it down.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for the time and effort you have put into this blog. I have enjoyed following for the past year and a half or so.
While I'm sure your personal lives are the main reason for the end of the blog, I think that the Mike and the Mad Dog split was almost as much of a factor. Their current shows are nowhere near as entertaining as their show was together, and that clearly had an effect on the blog.
Anyway, it's been a good run for you guys, and I'll definitely miss the days when this blog was going strong.
Take care
A sad day indeed. I will let my Loki name die along with the blog. It would not be appropriate to keep it. Thank you to Gman for naming me. RIP Mike and the Mad Blog.
...
KBilly - you are incorrect. MLK received a doctoral degree from Boston University. In fact there was some controversy and suggestions of plagarism after his death, but there is no question that he was awarded a legitimate degree.
KBilly's idea of keeping the site alive:
http://mikeandthemadblog.blogspot.com/2009/08/no-dog-and-no-mike-today.html
I second KBilly's motion, give him the keys. KBilly for President!
KBilly - affirmative. "A Comparison of the Conception of God in the Thinking of PaulTillich and Henry Nelson Wieman". In fact BU attached a letter to the dissertation in their library acknowledging the fact that sections "lacked appropriate ciations and quotation marks."
WOW-- This sucks big time!!!!
I know that the writing was on the wall and this past long weekend without any posts I'm sure was the icing on the cake.
True the radio show of Mike has gone downhill since the breakup and Dog has become irrelevent for most of us, but this blog had a life of its own and I for one am gonna miss it.
I want to thank those who took the time and made it possible. Great Job!!! I also tip my hat to Kbilly and AwesomeSean for the hard work they put in and the great topics they provided.
To some regulars- Loki, bigjf, and whatdoyouhave- we did'nt always agree but I enjoyed posting alongside you guys.
I hope you guys will reconsider. Possibly staying around until the end of baseball season? That will get us thru the start of football, the official burial of the NY Mets, and possibly the Yankees world championship.
Either way-- Thanks again and Good Luck!
JD
I'm trying to figure out the real reason for the blog shutting down:
1)Personal issues.
2)The split and the boring shows that grew from it.
3)The Mets horrifying season.
I enjoyed reading you guys. Thanks for providing me a great read everyday about NY sports.
Thanks for a fun blog to follow for the past year-plus. JD - same to you and the other regulars. Enjoyed the banter back and forth and discussing sports with different people than I normally do. Some great posts along the way by the initial three bloggers and recently by AwesomeSean and KBilly.
RIP Mike and the Mad Blog!
And since this is the first time I've listened to Mike in some time, mostly because of his vacation time, I have to make one last comment. I had forgotten the strength, scope and loyalty of MF's man crush on Brady- but listening today has really jogged my memory. It is one of the highest that he has - and since it's on a NY rival team, its in a way similar to the Youkilis/Beckett crush he's had to nurse through this season
Keep it open. Let somebody else run it. Please.
Thanks for the ride, guys. Drop a line if you start a new project.
Best of luck,
-WT
long time lurker here will be sad to see this place go. I have been a closet M&MD fan and this place always served as an AA of sorts, someplace I could see other poor souls like myself. Ever since the split the show and the blog have suffered. Mike sucks without a partner and resorts to repeating his same tired nonsense with no break in the monotony. I'd love to see the the blog stay alive but understand if you guys have made the final decision to shut 'er down. Thanks for the site while it lasted.
I agree that its time to move on but I also feel that its been a (mostly)good run. Thanks for the laughs! RIP M and MB
So is this still happening or has Kbilly taken control of the ship? I'm surprised Gman or FTLT have not commented...
Fellas, we really appreciate the kind words and that a lot of you enjoyed the blog. I was a part of it early on with ftlt and gman but once the Divorce happened it was a slow burn to this moment.
We created this blog to write about the mike and the mad dog show and when that was happening this blog was pretty fun to be a part of but when the breakup happened we lost our most important element: good content.
Mike francesa for a lack of a better word is bad. His solo show is boring, has nothing interesting about it and has yet to really provide us with the kind of content that could keep this going.
if you fellas want to start a new page, its pretty easy to do. I assure you, we are far from technical wizards.
I will say that the days of the mmd bucket list were my favorite, as well as ftlt glossary of mmd terms. We had a little something for a bit. Thanks for the support, for reading and commenting and telling your friends to check us out. We enjoyed the ride.
KBilly... start a Mad Dog Unleashed site and I'll be your first visitor. We both prefer his show anyway. May even get others to try out Sirius to get his show which is still so much better that Francesa's. Remove's Mike's name from this altogether.
I wanted to follow up on this post and the comments. Thanks to everyone who was a loyal reader and commenter. It's great to see the people that were reading but not commenting come out of the woodwork like a joncane or Rob NY. Our statcounting service told us you were there, we just didn't hear from you.
During the salad days, we averaged almost 150 returning visitors and 300 unique visitors a day. Those aren't deadspin numbers obviously, but not bad for a little ole blog with the default Blogger template. In the past few months however, we are averaging under 50 returning visitors a day.
To follow up on Lt. Sam's comment, content is the main reason we are shutting down. Mike and Chris just aren’t bringing it anymore. As a result, they give us less material to write about, like their favorite books, people who stink or their body language. We all appreciate the effort that AwesomeSean(apparently M.I.A.) and Kbilly gave over the last couple of months when they had the keys, but when we are posting about lobsters and McDLTs, you know it’s time to hang it up.
Who knows? If Chris and Mike ever reunite, we might as well.
Thanks again.
Not MIA Gman...Thanks for the time and the chance to write for your blog. I enjoyed it. FTLT, I've told you that several times.
Good luck in the future fellas.
To KBilly, JD, whatdoyouhave, rock, loki, gabagool etc. it was a pleasure butting heads or agreeing over the past year or so. Best of luck to all of you.
Anyone have an idea moving forward: You can get me at supertouch20x@yahoo.com
So when you say shut down, does that mean everything will be erased and this site won't exist? Or just that there will be no more postings? If so, when are you planning on doing this?
I understand the desire to move on and that things certainly got a little "slow" around here, but I think that was more a reflection on Mike and his never ending summer vacation without a replacement.
Mike is now back for what is usually the best time of the year for sports and I think this blog should stick around for it.
In the past two days alone Mike put his foot in his mouth many times. He'll certainly give us enough material to get back on track.
Either way- It's something to think about.
Thanks for the memories and Good Luck to everyone. Hopefully our paths will cross again.
JD
Shut it down you sorry white mothafuckas.

New spot. I will write it and see if there is interest. Anyone want to join me, drop a note in comment section or email me.
I guess Mike managed to kill this blog too. Well, I think I was following along for a little over a year now, since just before the split, so it was fun.
Someone needs to start a FireMikeFrancesa blog in the vein of FJM.
Thank you for the great blog. Happy somone recognized when the proverbial shark has been jumped. Maybe Kbilly can take over?
